Reading all the threads and posts her on Pre about the same old, same old i.e that player is crap, that coach should be sacked, there is no game plan etc, etc,i feel that it is time to be a little retro, and look back for a minute.

In our halcyon days of Hafey,Wilson,Richmond,we took no prisoners. We were able to recycle discards from other clubs almost at will.I still remember a journo's comment that the Tiges were a foreign legion. Also our board adopted the us against them approach, and the players followed suit-with success.

1982,losing the grand final, and then because of our pigheadedness went into war with collingwood, and drafting duds, not to mention Jackson,Roberts,Teasdale, things went pearshaped.

Coaches tried, but the admin went soft-VERY soft. The SOS saga was really only due to the previous boards failures, and we have been playing catch-up ever since.

Given all of that, looking at our last two coaches, there comes a time, when you have to ask yourself,is it the cattle on the field,or the herders outback?

I would like a dollar for every time a supporter has yelled out-"just kick it long" at one of our games(no recession here),as an example.IMO our game plan has on the one hand been so simple-"kick it to Richo" under Frawley, to the KPI,suffocate/flood,overuse type of football under Wallace that no-one really knows what the outcome is going to be.

I think it is high time that coaches get off their self importance, and engage their players to the KISS system, rather than baffle them with bulldust.

We have a good club, with tenacious supporters. It is time to Eat Em Alive, rather than our own.

lol - when do we eat our own? How do we eat our own more than other clubs? This "eating our own" tag that is given to the RFC by the media and stupid footballer followers (including tiger fans) is an anchor around our necks that makes us gun shy and inhibits us making the CORRECT decisions a club needs to make to become successful.

2 coaches in ten years with only 1 finals appearance!!!! Eating our own? More like extreme charity and goowill to our own.

Eating our own - don't make me sick. It's only journo's who have NFI idea about the game that use this phrase and the sheep football followers who lap it up.

I agree getting a spine would be fantastic like the good old days (which I never saw unfortunately being 25) but I don't see it as being as simple as that anymore, football has evolved so much in the last 8-10 years that you can't afford to go into games week in week out with a KISS style gameplan. I agree that the team is baffeld with bulldust, and that bulldust is Terry Wallace's inability to understand that you can't play a high possession game with blokes that simply can't kick the pill which is why he needs to go....and probably needs to go in 6-10 weeks so a new coach can be found and given an opporunity before a new pre-season starts.

That 'eating your own line' is getting boring. We have the most patient supporters in the AFL, but the media loves to dramatise this. We have had nothing but stability and patience in over the last decade. Why is saying saying enough is enough about disgusting performances interpreted as eating your own?

exactly.

Our club needs to find a spine

EAT OUR OWN!! - Yeah it is a myth.

Gaspar may have been criticised heavily when playing but walk around his house and other properites that he may have and ask whether he would be set up at another club like this.

Ottens was financially secure before starting his AFL career at Geelong. Collected money at our club before that.

Daffy would be a wealthy man today.

Ask whether the Richmond football club has eaten these blokes. They still have yellow and black crumbs around thier mouth

Tigerland, this is my point exactly! In the past(under Hafey,Wilson,Richmond)the club was run more like a dictatorship,if you didn't like, wrack off to put it mildly.Since thenit has been more of a band-aid approach,to appease the masses,so to speak, and it has not worked.Perhaps look at Hawthorn,Kennett for all his failings,at least has a spine. At the moment, all we have are excuses, and should haves, and what ifs, that's what is getting boring IMO.

Is this where Freezer was heading before being pulled into line. Now there is a tough uncompromising bastard who, if he spoke to Buckley - was miles ahead of anyone else and had more balls than anyone else.

At the time he looked out of line - not sure he does now.
