with the recent dealings out at Cragieburn its good to hear the boys will be able to train in the offseason on a full size ground but that still leaves the problem of distance and its availiability duru\ing the season proper.
With all the Punt Road redressing going on over the next 5 years im sure this subject has been raised during revamping meetings, you'd like to think so anyway or is it a case of been tried before, put it to bed? Probobly never happen anyway but its off season food for thought all the same.
How much smaller than the MCG is Punt Road Oval? How much more room do we need to create? Is it possible to widen the circumference of Punt Road Oval? If so what would have to go to make room? Does anyone have pics/diagrams? Maybe someone can cleverly grab/superimpose google earth pics for comparison?
Have thought many times about the widening of Punt Road oval. The last time i was there (fans training night) i even took a walk around to try and suss the possibilities.
The skinniest side is the Brunton Avenue end. Seats along the MCG side wing would have to be cut back around the ground. You could cut back the first two rows of seats and build up so you maintain the same capacity? Does the ground ever get capacity crowds in there anymore or are the inner rows kept "just in case".
Also the punt road wing grass area would need to be cut back too. Does this area along Punt Road ever get used for anything other than people going for a wander?
Being close to the road there would definately have to be some sort of netting applied, ala Albert Park Golf Course along Queens rd.
lastly and most importantly, is it remotely possible to widen Punt Road oval to a big ground like an MCG size?
If so i think it'd be very beneficial to the team. If not were doomed to train on a small ground forever and a day unless we make permanant move somewhere else, which isnt even a contemplation (at this stage >
