WILBUR THURSFIELD - our most underated player

Certainly is handy one-on-one as a defender.

Just seems to lack a bit of intensity when the ball is in his hands, and gets himself into a bit of trouble. Still WIP.

Wow ???

I'm amazed how much negativity there is on this post.

Thought he played well last night - and agree with this pot that he is one of our most underated players.

Keep it up Will :clap

PS - the guns are clearly getting bigger ;)

several great spoils yesterday in a dangerous one-on-one which wouldve cost us a goal had Lloyd marked or Thursfield infringed

Thirsty Willy is going along nicely. Don't forget he's had a knee reco and only played a handfull of games.
Don't think he will ever rack up big possessions, thats the LMID job not Willy's.
He's a good spoiling defender with a rock solid unflappable mind set who plays the percentages. Just the type of player to anchor your back half around.

Was very good against the DOns. This is why key defenders hardly ever get brownlow votes.. u cant just look at the stats and say lloyd 4 = thursfield average game. His positioning, spoiling (really makes fwd's earn it) and field kicking are vry solid and he improves every single week. He's starting to become noticed amongst commentary (both tv & radio).

A Chris Mew type perhaps?
Unflappable and gets the job done, no fuss type

I though Thursfield was disappointing last night. Looked lost and lacked compomsure at times, Lloyd would have kicked a bag if the ball got down their more. Far from one of his best game and after he was flogged by Mooney last week is struggling at the minute, still has talent and with some strenght and confidence will likely be ok long term.

he played on Hawkins last week and killed him. But dont let the facts get in the way of blasting one of our more consistent, honest players

If he gets anywhere near as good as Mew I'll be a happy camper.

That bloke was a gun, underated in terms of his 'star' status during the Hawks goldern period. Very rarely beat and Hawks team of the century CHB.

Thursfield played on Mooney and was well beaten and had to be moved off him.

Watched WT very closely any time the ball even threatened to enter the bombers attacking zone. His manning up was exemplary...the only time he looked "beaten" was when the ball hit the deck...lloyd read the ball better on the ground and moved to better position. In the air WT leap and attack at both ball and player was very, very good....one on one leading forward he was all over lloyd. Agree he looks a little lost when he actually has possession of the ball...but this will come with a bit more time and real time ball in the hands game time. He is a bone-fide backman!

Yep, it was a disappointing result because I don't rate Mooney but do rate Wilbur and the conditions favored backs

He is reminding me more and more of Gaspar. His finishing burst to get to the contest is very good as is his spoiling. However his disposal and decision making leave a lot to be desired. He was much better when Gaspar was there as he then had freedom to run off and make space. I'm hoping Rance (or someone else) can hold down full back so that Thursty can move up the ground and do what he does best, maybe get that confidence back.

Will's disposal efficiency is very high and he is no.1 in the AFL for spoils, which are as good as goals for full backs.

He was one on one with Lloyd time and time again on Saturday and beat him on most occassions. He was unclucky giving away some cheap goals where Lloyd got from turnovers and free kicks.

He is a great defender and his only bad game came against Geelong, where he didnt have much of an answer against Mooney, but all players have those days.

He is coming along just fine.
