Will Cleve Play First Round? Discuss.

No it's too early DDT.

He has to experience the rough stuff in the 2nds during a real season in winter.

He might get a chance late in the season.

against someone like the doggies who aren't exactly full of tall defenders, he may be a wild card. But otherwise, some early games for Coburg would be beneficial

My head says no, but my heart says YES YES PLEASE TERRY PLAY HIM! :-[

It may be argued its too early but he couldnt go any worse in a debut game or two than Patto did last year.

Clever is a natural, and i would have no qualms with him playing in round 1 out of a pocket not FF.

The boy has done all that could be asked of him this pre season if not more and in my opinion has exceeded expectations so far, and if his form warrants it why not.

With Richo attracting all opposition attentions up forward Clever could recieve a debut in which there is no pressure on him, thus allowing him to just soak it up and play.

Hughes has played better than Pattison this pre season, and in my opinion is a better player from what i have seen in regards to forward play.

Patto better to learn ruck trade for mine.

I cant see how its too early, he is the clearly best leading & kicking forward we have. TW should play him as he did Lids, ie every game but with alot of bench rotations to keep him fresh and get him through the season without too much stress. Bugger using Coburg, it hasnt exactly helped in the development of our younger players in my view.

Well said Maverick...wouldn't be much different from the way we've nursed other forwards like Pettifer...for all the same reasons, but with a hopefully bigger long term payoff.

It's not like immature KPPs have never been stuck on a flank or in a pocket while they're developing...we need all the class and options we can muster... :hihi

Not a hope in hell.
Will be very lucky to play a game this year.
What crap! Once Stafford loses his early season form or gets injured as it starts to get wet & cold, he will get his opportunities this year.

I would rather Cleve play than the undiciplined Staff come round 1

Would have been a great experience for Cleve yesterday playing on Fletcher(TW was hoping for this)In that first half was playing a lot of attention to Cleve,Fletcher was playing 10 metres in front of him and due to our slow ball movement coming forward bombers were able to flood back making hard for Cleve to lead at the ball carrier,Cleve continued to lead unrewarded to the pockets, but as most would have seen when he pushed up the ground and had a bit more space he was able to find the ball and would have to be very happy with his game, love the fact he rarely makes mistakes.Im sure they will be keen to get him in there but they may just want to play the bigger, stronger Staf against the undersized Doggies defence,He wont be too far away anyway I wouldnt think

I would like Pretty Boy Hughes to run out in Round 1. Another option up forward will add another dimension in the team, however playing every game of the year shouldn't be on his agenda, basically, 'horses for courses' should be the plan. The kid plays like a fotballer, he has a beautiful style (text book stuff) in marking and especially kicking the ball. Will ride on a massive learning curve this year and will be a better player once he puts on more beef, and most important, the team realises to stop becoming too Richo conscious and use this kid as another option in their kicking.

possibly CC although another train of thought is coming up against a "smallish" side like the Doggies might an oppotunity for TW to give Hughes a taste of AFL football.
Either way some very encouraging signs in young Hughes :) :thumbsup

I'd say Patto will get 1st crack as the new tall forward option.

agreed he is the long term fwd option 4 us and he needs to work hard with richo and get experience NOT ON GOAL KICKING THOUGH

Some context for 1st year draftees - Chris Judd played his 1st (& only) game in WA for East Perth after being drafted. Kicked 4 and had a lazy 25 odd touches.

I don't think he has been dropped since. :hihi
