Will Hardwick stubbornness win us or lose us a premiership?/Hardwick [Merged]

Vlas is a straight swap for jacko, with more skill. That in itself is a win for everyone's health and for the better of the team.

I'm quite happy with him. Dont rate him much diff to wines actually. If he wasn't inj and been playin mid I reckon he would be same as wines. His disposal and composure looked better than wines, from videos ive seen actuAlly. And he was Vics captain

Agree.

Lamb's suggestion that Vlastuin would've been available much later (in the 30's) is absolute nonsense. Vic metro captain, AA, hard tough and versatile, skilled, clean and composed. Plenty to like about his game.

Only in his little world was that such a reality. I haven't heard that possibility anywhere else. If we did "reach" for him it was maybe by a few picks, big woop. I doubt he gets past pick 14/15.

Hardwick is partly responsible for the improved list and culture. :clap

Two years left on contract so I reckon he has at least that given the teams continual ladder improvement.

Important year no doubt, but there are 12 good sides vying for finals. I could see a year where we see further improvement but we miss out without major fallout.

But if we go backwards or lose hope the pressure will come.

Correct, he would have been picked up by Geelong at a bare minimum. In saying that, the wisdom of the decision will ultimately come down to how well our ruck stocks fare and whether Grundy cements his place as one of the premier rucks in the AFL.

Baying for blood already.

No!
Has 3 top liners
Has a decent defence
Has a Coleman medalist
Has a very handy ruckman

Just stating the facts, where at a stage that the team is very competive against all sides and now we need him to steer us into the finals.

Who's whispering that? Why would they make all these decisions as a committee only to let one man overide that process in this case?

It's doing the rounds. I cannot confirm it but I have heard it. That's why I asked the question as opposed to calling it fact. \\

It all depends on what chance they give Menzel of being a long term contributor. If it isn't that great then I can totally see wy they wanted to take the player who fills a need and projects as a very safe pick. We're aiming for finals and a tilt at the flag. We need to make premium picks count at this point.

Yeah so can I. To be clear, I don't mind the pick. It's a safe low risk, list building pick. I agree with Barnzy, I don't think it much of a reach. And I don't think Vlas has horrible kicking skills but he won't look silky on a regualr basis. Everything is effort based. But if you are in a foxhole, you want him with you. I just think the next layer of this team has to be about the polish & silk.

I am more interested on who made the final call for the pick.

I can only imagine how nervous I would be had we picked Menzel. Might turn out to be injury free for the rest of his career, who knows, but I'd be very nervous.

If Vlas was a reach it would be but a few picks only I would think. We seem to have a slightly different ranking system to other clubs, time will tell whether it is successful or not.

I know it's summer and we have to talk about something, but let's give the kids a few games before passing ultimate judgement ;)

My guess is that there are only a handful of posters on here who have watched more than a few minutes of highlights of these players and maybe the televised TAC games.

People are knocking Vlas for having low possession counts playing on the HBF, but did he not play as a mid in his last 2 games and rack up around 25 in each game?

I'm sure that Hardwick would be the first to admit that finals are the aim and goal this coming season. Failure to achieve this will result in a lot of pressure on the coach, simple.

Im pretty negative when it comes to our prospects each year, but gee I'm confident about 2013.....if its another false dawn then so be it but one day it will click and IMO our time is now.

How more years has he got firstly??
What's his past for next season??

Because I think he has a decent side to play with now

No excuses, doesn't make finals has to go
Whilst I understand the sentiment and expect to make the finals in 2013, alot can go right or wrong in a season, sacking a coach on this KPI alone is short sighted.

The only excuse for not making finals next season in my opinion is a heavy injury toll. If we are light on for injuries & miss the finals, then the blowtorch needs to be applied the following season.
It's time to look past excuses & get to the truth of the matter, are we good enough. Time will only tell.

Yeah, haven't been this confident since heading into the 2009 season.

More than happy with his performance thus far. Injuries may be an excuse for not making finals next year. However i would hope we again improve and win more close games than lose them like last year.

The hype could get dangerously out of control once again during the off season ,the media will talk about Richmond playing finals ,

And then we will face a hyped up Carlton ready to impress their new coach ,

if we get smashed by Carlton, and we get out coached by Malthouse, the pressure will be on Hardwick after round 1.

Expectations - there is an old saying in Business - set the Expectations low to medium and over deliver and you will have happy customers.

It is the same here in Tigerland - if we set the expectations as Finals and we miss we will consider it a failure - whereas it could in fact be a stepping stone to sustained finals appearances for years to come. There are too many "ifs" "buts" and "shitstorms" within a football season to be sure of anything. From injuries to suspensions to *smile* poor umpiring decisions to player brain fades to wrong selections to weather conditions all or some of these separate elements can be in our favour or dead set against us........

As for being out coached by Malthouse - now with Choko in the box with Hardwick that is quite possibly less likely......

Let's love the Tigers, want the very best for the Tigers but as supporters let's not get ahead of what fate has prepared for us. In truth it is only the players on the playing field that define our fate - even coaches cannot get out there and kick goals - and as sure as there is *smile* in a cat "us supporters cannot get out there and kick goals either".......

The heat will only be iopen if it's a massive thrashing, but that should be short lived as ong as we steady up.

I mean, last year Carlton handed us one of biggest defeats for the year, we were out coached. It didn't do Ratten much good.

For all the discussion about the relative merits of the juniors I still think one of the original points made by Lamb about rejoining due to the TFTF was the best. Between the fighting tiger fund, the current high membership count, a 2014 Richmond reserves side, the increased football department incl. Choco Williams, the large number of recruiters, the redeveloped Punt Road oval, a gym with cutting edge equipment rather than a coaches office complete with possum poo - we are building. The cumulative differences even since I've been a member of PRE are amazing - Frawly era vs Hardwick's era. If we are also building on the field a side which is absolutely hard at the ball, does the right thing when they get it and have the skills to actully do what they intended to do, then we are going to win more games than we lose.

I have a suspicion we will not win a grand final - the generous concessions to the new clubs will probably overtake us. But as stated in the Lenningrad Cowboys - "*smile* Happens!"

My son and I are paid up members for 2013 - and that's what counts. Merry Christmas everyone. ;D

Well said RT. Agree with your clearly defined comments, but really how good is Choko?? What has he done to make us think he is better then life's bread??
