will our skills ever improve?

Yes, when the RFC desists with it's obssession with recruiting players who can't kick; and players who have no footy nous.

On second thoughts, ah no, it won't ever improve.

Our skills will improve 50% when our players actually start giving the ball carrier a target to kick it to. Kicking to nobody under pressure always looks ugly.

Have a look at our habits when we gain possession, we always try and carry the ball and break tackles instead of letting the ball do the work and quickly moving it on (like the Bulldogs did....)

We take at least twice as many steps carrying the ball before considering disposing of it, that extra time allows the opposition to man-up as well as chase us down - even the little-league kids in the half-time match played a better brand of football than we attempted (and that little kid wearing the Richmond #15 had more footy nous and instinct that half our team exhibited tonight).

I felt some players would play on without actually seeing what was in front of them.

Yes, our skills are still very poor.  They have been for the past 20 years.

We have a young list how are still delevoping their bodies and skills.  Improvement will come in time.

tonite was worse than ever. i may as well support another team...

As soon as we retire (ie dump) players like, Gaspar, Tivendale, Chaffey, and Kellaway and start recruiting skillful young players (esp KPP) we will start making some headway.

So maybe by the year........................... 2015 we will have a skillful, well drilled team.

I always notice our players looking at the opposition player rather than the ball. They seem to have some scare of been tackled and no guts to just grab the ball and move forward no matter whose around them.

we've been saying that for 20 years and there is no improvement

I think one big problem is they don't often go with their first option. You can see them hesitate. If you're gonna make a mistake at least make it a big one and you might even surprise yourself and get it right.

i think those in the system 3+ years wont improve their skills too much. trick is to get to the club players who have the `infrastructure' to work with (ie. basic idea of how to kick, mark ....) combine THAT with determination, courage, nous (decision making) etc and youre on the right track to having good team. Here's a crude equation: if not skilled enough players > 0 in 22 on team = trouble. I suspect that it will only be when some much loved but inadequately skilled senior players move on, that our fortunes will improve. Argh... the lot of a tiger supporter.

i agree with you David C.  The biggest problem we have is that we have no confidence in our decision making.  We seem to take the wrong option. We move the ball slowly, we have have no moving options, and all leads are wide.  A numbe of tmes we got the ball about 70-80 metres and we go across the ground insteadof hitting the goal square.  Why?  Rodan's constant insistant to handball to a person in trouble.  Why don't we got through the middle, and  take the first option.  We need to learn how to lead properly, time the leads properly , and honour the correct year.  I new not to expect anything this year, but we got to stick together and not eat our own, and let the coaching staff do their stuff.  It may turn around.

What I also notice was that we should have only been 2 goals down at half time, we dominate but don't score.  We do need a target up there.  But our fitness level were poor, and probably says why the game got out of hand.

Our list is not skillful and has not been for 25 years. You dont develop a players skills, they either have it or they dont. Our drafting & trading has been terrible.

We continually trade for, draft and rookie players without skills so I see no end to this, some off the top of my head are;

2005 Draft White, Rookie Graham, Trade for Bowden.
2004 Draft Pattison, Polo
2003 Draft Hartigan, Rookie Foley
2002 Draft Coughlan, Fleming
2001 Draft Rodan

This coupled with continually playing the older guys with the worst skills in the league ie Gaspar, Kellaway and even my beloved Richo.

Despite the hype about the fantastic young list the only skillful kids we have are; Deledio, Tambling, Meyer, Hughes with Raines, JON and Casserley as possibilities. Not much to get excited about for mine.

I cant agree that Our skill are as bad as they played last night ... the game was lost because we played as badly as an under 15 b side and they are better yes missing cambo....staff and chaffy were out as this is a new era it is time to move on Rodan has gotto stop clanging and bling was a little out as well .....um what ever it is that is going on in thier heads confused with new game plan? just confused ? loss of key link players? can't smoke billies anymore? it is wrong!!! most of them are farr better than that and some just shouldn't leave coburg
rnd 1 in my book made me really wonder if terry wallace is ok ?
