Essendon will choke, they still think they have the same class they had two-three years ago, and they stupidly think their preseason form is indicative of the real deal.

As for Knighter, its gunna get ugly. He now dons the Red and Black, so from now on its a right off. No more "oh come home please" rubbish please! I have had enough of that after 20+ years of Sheeds.

I'm talking more about the likes of Hislop, Gumbleton, Myers, Jetta and Houli. All seem at least as likely as any of Richmond's picks from the last two drafts to have a significant impact on their team's performance.

And what about the 2-3 draft's before that? Gumbleton and Myers look like keepers and Hislop looks like a player but after those there are no future stars, the quality drops away sharply. Essendon possibly have the worst list in the AFL when you consider that Lloyd, Fletcher, Lucas, Johnson and Michael cover all their key positions and none of them have more than a couple of years left in them and there doesn't seem to be many coming up to take their spots. We have a terrible drafting record if you look through the history books but I think you will find that Essendon has been just as bad if not worse.
Mark my words, the next 3-5 years is going to be a very lean period for Essendon, don't look too much into the pre-season form, it has a habit of telling fibs!

The drafts before that we can already see what a lot of the players are going to provide. It's the guys from the last couple of drafts (particularly 06) that will provide the most impact IMO.

I don't think you can rate players until they are 23-24, most players at Richmond with 50 games under their belts from these same draft periods would only just be starting to play senior footy at some of the stronger clubs.
You could also make the argument that we haven't had the senior mainstay players for the younger players to work in and around, it has been more of a situation where the kids are looking after the kids and having to take on major rolls and for the most part been smashed.

$1.80 Bombers is a steal.

They're not much good, but they'll finish above us in a canter.
Champ l will get back to you on that statement in August
