Will Sheedy Trade All Three Top Picks?

Sheedy knows he only has Hird and quite possibly Fletcher for one more year. IIRC he himself is only contracted for one more year.

With Lloyd returning to FF, Lucas at CHF, Fletcher at FB (all in their twilight years as players) and a host of possibles for CHB, IMO it's unlikely he would consider any of the KP's available in the draft as desperately needed for immediate success in 2007.

Will he roll the dice and aim to seal his claim as football's modern day genius coach by trading away picks 2,18 and 20 in exchange for quality ready made players who can contribute to one last tilt at glory?

There is no way he'll trade all three. I'd be amazed if anyone traded a first round pick this year.

However, if he's interested in Akermanis he'll have to give the Lions a second round pick (they have two, one is complementary, 18 or 20).

I think he'll trade players as well. You know guns like Bolton, Henneman, Cole will be offered first first round picks which as usual will leave every other club underwhelmed. :spin

No. they'd still get nowhere near it.

Sheedy's contract expires next year. He would want max impact on the field, hence, a combination of trades, trades picks offered and sly meetings of out of contract players.

make my day sheedy, GET IT WRONG AGAIN.

They are very close to a premiership, just ask any of their fans. All they need is a good top up for next season, Lloyd will be back, Aker, a couple of PSD pick ups and the flag will be theirs.

What are they going to do with more kids?

I think Sheedy will definitely try to trade pick 18 for Aker as rumour suggests, but I suspect he may go further than that.

Hird is 34 next year
Fletcher is 32
Lucas is 29
Lloyd is 29
Both Johnson's are 29

They want serious finals action next year and I won't be at all surprised to see Sheedy offer up his high draft picks for seasoned players. Only time will tell, but Essendon has a tiny window left to aim for another premiership before it needs a total rebuild...a concept which doesn't sit well with Sheedy who has long been used to success.

Pick 2 is a massive lure which may see them get a couple of good players or one outstanding player...and pick 20 could bring in another good player or an excellent veteran.

Even with quality 'top ups' the Bummers are no chance.

Hird will play 8 or so games next year, retiring mid year stating it was a mistake to play on.
Lloyd will struggle as the Bummers fail to get enough inside 50's.
Aside from Lucas the others are well past their best and the youngsters at Essendon aren't as good as Sheedy makes out.

I hope he does, it will set them back years. But I think Sheedy will believe he will get another contract extension so will pick up some youngsters.

Just to clarify, I'm not suggesting they are a chance jb...but they clearly have the metality that they are. At his 'one more year' press conference Hird was talking up a premiership tilt...Lloyd thinks the difference between 15th and a premiership is him and a few dozen 'perfect 10' dives...

As I said, their window of opportunity is very small...the vast majority of their genuine quality players are in their twilight now.

Window of opportunity is zero, with seasoned draft players or none. There is no quick fix for Essendon.

i agree. sheedy will attempt a quick fix to get a new contract and to try and send off hird with a bang. this is a huge mistake and will put them in a position as bad as carlton in 2-3 years. for the betterment of the essendon footy club, hird should have retired, then they would have been forced to rebuild now. essendon is in total denial of their predicament.

but sheedy did say in the sunday hun he probably won't be trading their first 3 picks away... i'm not convinced of that at all.
