Will Thursfield needs protein shakes.

I thought it was going to take him alot longer to get the confidence back in the knee than it did. I read it was the worst knee the surgeon had seen so he did a good job.

Will Thursfields closing speed, spoiling skills, reading of the play, composure, awareness and skills are first class. He tore the AA candidate in Cloke apart on Friday night. He is our best defensive player who also possesses great rebounding abilities.

Here we have a player who can confidently play on the running type, long leading key forwards - the Nick Riewoldt types, and will do a job on them every week.

It's refreshing that we have an A class midfielder in Foley, and potentially an A class defender in Thursfield. Both off the rookie list.

Wish he was 5cm taller, wish he was 12 kg heavier.

Why? Does he need to be when he's towelled O'Loughlin, Mooney and Cloke in consecutive weeks? :clap

Maybe a bit of weight gain but not too much or he'll lose that great jumping mobility he has.

Agree. Double agree.

I thought Thursfield looked as agile and had more spring then I have seen all year.

Has tremendous closing speed and a knack for getting a fist on the ball. Also is just starting to turn into a rebounding defender, let fly with some laser beam kicks on Firday night. Cloke has no intrest in running after him, none at all. Between Cloke and Rocca the last chase the Collingwodd key forwards had was to the hot dog shop. Didn't think that Thursfield would become a rebounding running defender, I had him pegged as a stopper. Really goes to show it does take 18 months to get back to your best with a knee.

A few times noticed we were under pressure in defence, and we were handballing it around with some desperation and panic, untill in came Thursfiled and settled the ship with composure and an assured handpass that got us out of trouble and set us up going forward. He has a steady head for a kid.

Well said H!

the game is changing...there is more running and less body contact in general terms...For the defender you cant touch forwards ( hands in the back rule, hitting arms etc in marking contest ) any more so perhaps thirsty is more suitable to the game than we think...I would however like him to eat a few more Big macs just so I don't wince when he backs into a pack....Big Q from the coast would have blown him apart if he had run into him instead of Jesse Smith on the weekend... :help

Also Don't forget Michael tuck, he wasn't the biggest bloke going around in his era...he was a fairly handy player albeit in a different position.

Rising Star nominee possible this week ;)
Would be a very well deserved accolade if it comes. After one very serious knee reco. he has come back really well.
Well done Will.

Sure was but Thursty has been performing well for most of the year and especially in the past 2 weeks.

I would like to see the kid get a nomination for his own encouragement and self belief. He has made up a lot of ground since doing his knee

Hope so! What a great reader of the play Will is.His mark and play on in front of Fraser was sensational.A big pre-season on the track & in the gym will have us salivating in 2008.Well done Will! :clap

Probably will be a good player for us but we still need 2-3 big strong tall defensive units before we can contemplate taking on the big boys.
