Will we trade off picks for players at end of 08?

The key issue with a trade is it is not what we think our players are worth it is what soemone else will pay for them.

King absolutely has trade currency - listen to most commentators talk him up. Dermie loves him.

Dermie loves anyone that looks angry cause then he can relate it to a story about how tough it was back when he played
Absolutely agree that it is what someone else will pay

We might be surprised at how much (or little) some of our players are worth

Usual suspects: JON, Pettifer, Meyer, McGuane, probably Patto if we can get Warnock. I've come around to seriously having a look at trading Raines and Newman, we have so many players of this type. We'd have to evaluate the consequences on team morale though. If Schulz is disaffected get a trade done although this means trying to get an extra KPP.

We won't get anything for Hyde and Tiv so just delist them. We won't be trading McMahon.

Reckon Newman'd be the only one that'd get us a pick inside 40 (then only just) this year personally Ian.

Below IMO is a list of tradeable players who should be on the table in terms of value from top to bottom.
They won't all be traded obviously but they should be put out there to see what interest there is.

Newman
Tambling
King
Raines
Schulz
Brown
J Bowden
Johnson
McGuane
Hyde
Polo
White
Pattison
Pettifer
Meyer
JON
Coughlan
Graham
Jackson
Howat
Tivendale
21 players very grim pickings indeed. you would be lucky to get a second rounder for any of them atm, just goes to show how far the list has to go. oh you left of 4 rookies as well. i could find another few but i reckon you have it in a nut shell.

one thing for sure the rfc will trade away earlyish picks they always do. they do it because they have no idea. mundy warnock are two they will go after. take a ruckman or 3 late and rookie draft that has warnock covered. take hurley in the nd with our first pick im really starting to warm to this kid that would more than cover mundy.

If I recall claw you once rated Mundy?

From what I have seen of him he is softer than Petts!

Maybe thats what Freo does to you?!

i still like him as a player and yes he could toughen up a bit.i dont think its anything that cant be turned around with him. the thing is the rabble footy club are going to chase these two with early picks probably.when its clear theres better players available to us useing early picks in the nd. i can just see rance hurley and thursfield as our big key defenders. i love hard at it players hurley is both hard at it and has half decent skills.

I am a fan but I think we have many similar types.
Hasn't made a successful step up to become a damaging onballer, still loose as a small defender.
For the right price he's on the table.

He plays in the most important position on the ground, he sets up across half back. He is a general there.

He is very distinctive in the way he plays, there is no one who matches his skill, courage and his decision making.

You get rid of players like Newman and you will never succeed, that would be the worst trade since giving away Stuart Maxfield.

Who is like Newman in the team, matching skills, heart and decision making?

We got a couple others who have predominantly been playing that role there this season.
Newmo has been largely playing on the ball until recently.

Yes he is gutsy and has nice disposal but how's his clearance work, tackling rates and contested possessions statistics?
He's also regularly leaked goals on small forwards when playing defence.

How have we travelled in all the time he's been at Richmond?

He's a good footballer hence his trade value but he's not indespensible IMO.

Sadly my Dear Claws the tigers inability and unwillingness to trade up and off load good players such as Tambling or Newman for the opportunity to get very good players that assist structure, and list balance will likely cost the dream of a Hurley, Rance Willy T defence.

Cant see the tigers passing up a Hartlett for Hurley or Lisle.

Hartlett will be good for the Tigers as would be Ziebell no doubt the club needs quality in the middle and these 2 offer it, but uptrading to pa pick say between 8 and 16 may be enough to enable the Tiges to snare one of these quality mids as well as a Hurley, Trengrove or Lisle.

Its time for this club to get fair dinkum.

Your entitled to your opinion, but I think your wrong. We need to create a team with players like Newman at the front of it all.

He hasnt hit his peak yet, his recovery from a broken leg has been unbelievable and his work one on one is great. He is not a backman, but is played as the playmaker across half back which is all important.

I cant remember Newman lining up on the ball at all this year.
