i must say i always shake my head when people talk about winning culture.
winning culture never comes unless you have the cattle who are good enough to win.

I've copied the above quote of santa's from the Pre-season Cup thread. I'd be interested to know others' thoughts on winning culture.

It goes without saying that you need good enough players to win but I do believe in a winning culture too. If players think they can win and are confident they can push themselves that bit harder. It's human nature. Go into your shell and things are less likely to happen. Show some self-belief and you just might make them happen.

It's the same with life in general. If you are supported and appreciated you're likely to do better than if the whole world seems down on you and always critical of what you do.

My personal feeling is that of course you do need to have good "cattle" but a lot of footy is played above the shoulders and a few wins and some belief can fire a team on to bigger and better things, as can support and positive encouragement from everyone involved.

A team that comes to mind in regard to a winning culture is our 1995 team under John Northey. A question for santa and others is was our list then, when we played finals, that much better than it was last year, when we hardly won a game and got the spoon, or do you believe, as I do, that the players had a slightly different mind-set and a lot more confidence that year?
