Wisbey on Casserley and Oakley-Nichols

had to laugh at this bit

In particular, U18 kids with on-field intensity issues, especially those who play an outside style, very often continue to disappoint at AFL level, at least for an unreasonably long time (eg Pettifer, Fiora, Cupido, Tim Walsh, Sam Power, Jay Shultz, Llane Spaanderman, etc).

Half of them were recruited by Richmond. :-[
At least Casserley is a third round pick we used first round choices on the other three.

Absolutely Bill James.Having seen very little of Casserley(he didnt get much of a run in the u/18 champs) i was really keen to read what Wisbey had to say about him.

Casserly is exactly they type to use a 3rd round pick on.It's a 'calculated risk'.Better a 3rd rounder than what the pies did with Pendelbury and Thomas at #2 and #5. ;D

Incidently,I've been complaining about Richmond overlooking Hurn.I notice Wisbey ranks him #1.West Coast got a 'bargain'.

P.S I'm fairly confortable with us picking O-N.

Interesting that Wisbey ranks Oakley-Nicholls at 5, Hughes at 13, and Casserly at 22.

Impressed that Wisbey seems to think that Oakley-Nicholls has "outstanding evasion".  Too many of our players seem to lack this and Deledio showed how important it is to have speed and evasion (ie side step).  Impressive.  Hope this Wisbey guy is on the money and not exagerating things a bit.

Surprised he ranks Casserly ahead of Ellis who went at 3.

Also surprised he ranks Hughes ahead of Dowler.

Wisbey obiously knows his stuff but its only what one bloke reckons, still rate encourgaing aye.

I too enjoy reading The Wiz's profiles, but lets not forget he did compare Daniel Jackson to Michael Voss, and I haven't seen much to make me agree with him yet.

From what I recall he also compared McGough to Voss.

To be fair he says its in terms of playing style - not abilty.

he's one of our very youngest players.

even eggs take a few minutes

i reckon jacko will be terrific AND he's got some blokes around to help.

I find this comment about Casserly very interesting indeed

"Reads like a natural "wing" and I agree with that. However, with confidence and strength, he has the makings of a ball-carrying HBF and someone who can play on a non KP marking type or a quickish small."

how bout that :o

I dont understand it to be a mock draft where he says where I think players will go but rates them in terms of talent and where they should go.

He is not a dumb bloke but he watches a heck of alot of junior football so you cannot dismiss what he says. Whilst he isnt always right (is anyone? It isnt an exact science) he gives an intersting well backed ideas and sometimes is very close to getting it right.

His in deapth profile on the Richmond boys:
JON - http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=212505
Hughes - http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=212504

Was not in any order.

Yes, it was.

According to http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=212002

So his no.2 pick Luke McEntee missed out? Luke must be a decent player if he was rated so high. We must definately consider him in the PSD.

Spoke with Terry near the end of last nights club 80 function and he certainly sees Casserly as a possible emerging, 'small defender.' Stranger things have happened...Hartigen selected in a b/p, game 1, 04.

Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls (East Perth)

188/75 bottom-age right foot (has other foot if necessary) outsidish mid
/ flanker

*STYLE LIKE: Rob Murphy

Travis Casserley (Swan Districts)

187/76 mid-age right foot (has other foot if necessary) HBF/wing.

*STYLE LIKE: Jordan McMahon

Bit of Zigmund Freud here (Hope thats how you spell it)
