We were 6 pts down.

The ball was on the wing on the northern stand side, tigers should have got 6 holding the ball decisions...the umpires let the play go to an extent i have never seen before. hawks get a lucky bounce out the pack, our players were shot after that great pressure the ball goes to roughhead and he goals...

what t he hell was that umpire doing?

we deserved to lose but that lack of umpiring hurt us at that stage.

I was ripping my hair out with that too.

Agree, but the umpiring was very inconcistant both ways tonight.

Brown's error.

He used his habit of trying to step into his cool spot instead of just booting for goal.

That was an awesome dynamic period of play which showed desperation to get the ball forward....but hell surely a kick or three would have been effective if even a chip across ground to open the corridor....there were a few players lurking about 30 m away screaming for the ball at one stage. We still need to have a greater vision.

But once again the boys showed desperation and the backline worked damn hard. Kel Moore showed he is class and Thirsty played a solid game. The Dawks are a hrd team to stop with such a dynamic midfield and we sure did well.

The future is looking ummmm Rosy!

I agree.

And I think the umpiring for that bit of play was spot on. He probably was about to call holding the ball early on and didn't follow through. The easy way out would be to pay another one (could've been about 3 each way). But he said "right, I didn't pay that last, so I'd better be consistent and not pay any others, unless they're completely blatant". And he didn't. And he got it right. It was just our bad luck it ended up going the other way.

It was a real contest. And the umpire handled it superbly as well. We'd have a much better game if that was the norm, rather than the exception.

I reckon that contest summed up the whole night for us. We were fierce and didn't give up, yet the ball came out to a Hawthorn player who was able to find space. All night they seemed to find space where we couldn't. I think that was the difference in the end (plus their bad kicking for goal).

A Hawks supporter near me let fly saying that the the umpires were a disgrace (yawn) and were keeping us in the game. . . that and the 23 behinds that they'd kick to that point. That passage of play on the wing had everybody laughing.

And is it just me or do the Hawks supports call Baaaawll at just about every half-baked contest? Sheeesh, he's allowed to try and get rid of it first.

Well put. That was the most exhilarating part of the match. It was collision football in a phone booth for about 2 minutes.

I have to agree, I also feel those 2 goals from terrible free kicks cost us, the umps slaughtered us today, it is getting worse every year.

Just got home distressed by what you saw in last 2 minutes - got rough head of the stick - devasted penguin

that contest was great and i reckon it decided the game. if we had won it and scored we would have been hard to stop. its good to see the whistle put away sometimes!

Agree, however it is now a rarity to see hard contested footy with a bit of leeway from the umps without all the technical decisions determining genuine body and ball focused contests.

geez even though i was yelling at the tele i thought the umps did okay yes they got some wrong but lets not forget hawthorn missed a awful lot of shots. a five or six goal loss would have been about right.
credit to our blokes we never at any time gave up the ghost.but imo the better team won.
