PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Today's paper has an article suggesting that the Soccer World Cup could be played at the G in June and July, and that AFL games would then have to re-scheduled to be played alsewhere. I find this most obnoxious and have emailed the club as follows

Reports in today's Sun state there is a possibilty of the MCG being used in June and July for the Soccer World Cup.

As the Tigers are drawn to play 3 games in July against Carlton, North and Essendon, we will be most upset if those games are re-scheduled to play elsewhere. As a member, I expect the drawn games at the G to be played there, and not transferred to another ground just because the government thinks having soccer played at this venue would be a financial proposition.

I would therefore urge the RFC to lobby the AFL very hard to oppose this move.

Already we have a home game to be played on the Gold Coast. where most of us could not attend, even though alternate arrangements are to be made for another game for members to attend is being mooted.

I don't have any great problem with soccer, except I find it like watching grass grow, but to have us thrown out of the G for another code, in what is our State national game would be a disgrace.

I would urge other members and supporters to email the AFL and our club to protest, if they think as I do.
