Worst Coach of the last 15 yrs...

I agree that Frawley was the absolute bottom of the barrell, but I'm surprised that more people aren't naming Wayne Brittain

Wayne Brittain achieved more success at Ponces Park than Pagan has!!

Interesting point that former AFL star players such as Shaw, Watson and Frawley really havent made the grade, but a more scientific and more professional coach like Neil Craig seems to rally deliver the goods!

This is a personal view and I have not backed it by going to the research books, but it appears that the best coaches of the moden era are backmen, or back pocket players.

Sheedy, Malthouse, Parkin, Hafey, right up to Roos. Of course there are exceptions (Frawley), but it appears to me quite a few are defenders.

Just goes to show that just because you can play football does not make you an instant success at being able to coach a team. Two entirely different requirements. Generally a back pocket player is hard working, has little or no flair and a no nonsense approach - just what you look for in a coach. Back Pocket players (and defenders genrally) put the team first before personal glory unlike many on baller/forwards, hence the defenders are better suited to guiding a team. Just my thoughts.

It's been said here already but it's Timmy W for mine. Another armchair expert who has all the answers from the safety of the SEN studio but was bit short of ideas when he had control of the Saints.

I don't understand this thread - has there, could there ever be a worse possible coach than Frawley? Have we forgotten how totally abysmal he was? Plus it was no flash in the pan, he had five years to prove it - I mean compare that to Watson or Rhode, I mean you have to give them a slight benefit of the doubt, they might have got better with time?

Oh the present day coaches, I'm starting to think maybe Pagan - he has had Carlton running on the spot for four years now. Although when this thread is done, his name should probably be nominated when somone starts a thread for the most overrated coach. Loads of potential nominees there!

Timmy W really had no clue. Loved his work when he had the bottom of the shirt unbuttoned on "Torkin' Foody" with his guts hanging out though. And to the dudes that bagged Dean Laidley - it's not his fault, it must be really hard to coach with a massive chip on your shoulder all the time.

Others:

Denis Pagan - I don't know about his coaching, but man he looks like a koala.

Robert Walls - his match summaries consist of the performances either being "terrific" or "disappointing"

Danny Frawley - "we stuck fat, get the process right, blah...blah...."

Grant Thomas - if he is talking, he is lying...

Gary Ayres - best long term mullet for a coach

Ian Collins - OK, I know he hasn't coached, but he must be the most arrogant, pig headed, smarmy b*stard associated with the AFL. I cannot stand that pr*ck!!

Any koala - wow, they all look like Denis Pagan.

I think I need some sleep.............
