Worst umpiring decision you've ever seen

Chris Bond snaps a goal to put as ahead by 5 points. Dunkley is standing a couple of metres behind the goal line next to Richo and throws himself backwards to show he can't run forwards through Richo to spoil. A shepharding free kick is paid and we lose by a point.  :-X I have seen this happen hundreds of times since and NEVER be paid.

Cost us a win and a place in the finals  :'( (probably 4th or 5th as we had a great %ge that year)

and the winner is... this one. the game was transferred to waverley because the mcg was in a terrible state. we were utterly and completely robbed of a finals birth in 1996

The ball went through halfway up the posts - Dunkley couldn't have touched it using stilts. Game had to be transferred to Waverley after the AFL had a gigantic dinner function on the MCG surface during the week, I think for past VFL/AFL players who had played 25+ games.

In the 80's (vs Fitzroy) I will add when Barlett's head was ripped off in front of goals. No free was paid & when players looked up said play on, they kicked it long they marked & they goaled to win the game. Costs a finals berth. (I think it was 83. I will find out.
...

This was an infamous game in 1981, Bartlett had 6 shockers go against him and the Sunday Press back page headline screamed "CRUCIFIED!" in giant letters complete with a picture of a grumpy-looking KB. Harry Beitzel was the umpiring director and conducted an investigation, after which he admitted publicly that the umpires had made mistakes in 5 of the 6 decisions. The support from Harry helped precipitate an umpires' strike a fortnight later.

In recent times the Polo one stands out.

Recall staring at the telly in horrified disbelief as McManus ran in and kicked the goal.

2004 Prelim Final. Chad Cornes produced the most blatantly obvious deliberate out of bounds I have ever seen.

Took the ball out of the ruck and kicked a snap straight at the line, from 25 metres away, did not deviate, and no player within miles of where the kick landed.
Scores level at this point...(game at Aami, so the fact it wasnt paid doesnt surprise me) ball races down the other end for a goal to Port. (after a holding free kick in the goal square). result Port win by 6 pts and go on to win the flag.

The deliberate Out of Bounds against Pettifer against the Fockers over in Perth this year was a real doozy too.

Hands down the worst umpire descion EVER::
1980 V St Kilda somehow in jezza's first game as coach of the saints they held us to a draw, as the final siren sounded a very agitated tigers fan(not me) ran onto the MCG looking for retibution against umpire Kevin Smith. Just before getting to him he was tackled by Mad dog Robbie Muir saving the umpires skin!.

Later that year was Muir's famous match when chested and butted umpire Kevin Smith..
getting a very lengthy sentence.

Now that descision to save that umpire has always been the WORST EVER in my book.

;D
