More wild/inane speculation on my behalf on the shape of our list in the middle future – this time 2008.

Let’s pretend for a minute that after this year’s draft we strike it lucky with our list and that the players we will have - plus a few extras - are good enough to hold their positions in the top 22 for the next 3 years. Even manage to crawl up the ladder in years 2006/07 – so that by the end of the year 2008 we will be in a good position to have a real dip in the finals.

So at the end of 2008 we could have a list that has played for 3 years together and really bonded – but will they be experienced enough (apart from good enough) to be a serious threat? Let’s have a look at the numbers.

The numbers after each player represent games played to the end of 2008 home-and-away season (but not the finals) – assuming an average of 18 games per year (a tad optimistic no doubt) and two finals games (06/07). The players chosen are those I think will go the distance from the current list plus those that I hope we will recruit this year. Those marked * are completely unknown players that will be picked up in subsequent years and are not part of the calculation – they could be youngsters or experienced players – but let’s assume overall that they conform statistically.

FB Hartigan 83 Thursfield 62 *
HB Jackson 72 Mills 56 Newman 132
C Tambling 68 Coughlan 127 Meyer 62
HF Brown 223 Schulz 81 *
FF Rodan 116 Dowler 56 Simmonds 182
R Pattison 58 Deledio 78 Tuck 81
Int Polo 56 Bowden 248 Foley 62 *

The average games played per player will be almost exactly 100. This figure, however, will be distorted somewhat by the presence of Brown and Bowden. Take the numbers out for these two players and the average drops back to 84. Perhaps a little too young overall to challenge for the flag – but 2009 should be interesting.

Still further wild speculation, who will Craig and Claw be calling DUDs from that Richmond 22? ;) ;D

Like your post TITN for sheer optimism, stirred with a dash of thought of course! :clap

I'll name the duds in that side, who by 2008, will be captain coaching these sides:-

Rodan - St Mary's Darwin

Hartigan - Doveton (looks like a Dovetonite!)

Jackson - retired cause he just cant play

Bowden- Alice Springs with his brother as assistant

Simmonds - Mornington, with Richmond still paying the duds wages!

Schulz - Moe

You've done very but will be interesting to pull the thread up in 3 years time.
ps. would love to see richo still there, especially if we won a flag he'd go off his nut after the siren.

I'd also like to see Richo make it. Despite the way people here bag the big fella what would have WCE given for him on GF Day this year? He would have been the difference between them winning and losing.

Yep good effort tiger in the night good effort.

BUT 8)

I will guarantee you one thing and that is there is no way in my mind that SCHULZ, RODAN or FOLEY will be at the tigers in 08 my dear man. In fact Schulz will get the arse this year if he doesnt play at least 12- 14 games, whilst i strongly believe Foleys lack of height and pace will count against him in the long run which is unfortunate cos i like the way he goes about it.
Losing Schulz or Rodan on past efforts over the last 3 years is definately no big deal in my opinion.

nathan foley 19 has the ability to win the ball in tight and does regularly has very good hands is a sound kick and has a good motor.hes a tad on the slow side and skinny but so are a few on the list pettifer and krakouer are 2 that spring to mind and i would play foley in front of those 2 anyday.
foleys deficiencies may well stop him from becoming a regular afl player.but im prepared to give him the next couple of yrs to prove himself.i think the most important thing nathan could do at this stage of his career is go take some steroids and get in the gym because with some bulk and strength he could become a very effective in and under ball winner.

Claw, first the rookie funding and now this.

Please father put the mask back on or you will die.

Yep i like Foley too and i hope he goes well so stick that one. All i have said is he lacks a little pace and height which could go against him but i do rate the boy as a player and would love to see him kick on this year especially at the expense of Tivendale.
Believe it or not i think highly of many tigers its just a group of 6 to 8 that i seriously believe we could cast off without really being hurt. All clubs have these guys its just a matter of realising when they have been given enough time as Essendon has found out this year by getting rid of 12.

Once again i know that i seem to rant and rave about the same things and the same guys but there is a good reason for this and for mine i am dead set sick and tired of doing it. It makes me sick that if punters like myself can see these guys are no good then why cant the so called experts.
The fact we as a club only have 1- 2 players in the top 50 is an embarrassment.

I love my tigers and it is my passion that gets the better of me at times as i love PRE, i am just tired of Tiger Mediocrity and apologise for my outbursts of passion cos thats what it is not hatred or white anting.

Sorry all but sometimes it just makes me wanna scream.

Based upon their track records you have the right to make the statement, however just two things:
I would dearly love to see these three guys make you eat those words in what will be a crunch year for all three,
If they do make you eat those words then the Tigers will be a heck of a lot better off than they are today.
For Schulz and Rodan particularly if they don't fire you won't have to wait to 08, 06 may see them off.

Schulz and Rodan both have talent, in fact Schulz is a very talented player and he knows it, however talent will not take you to the top at AFL level, dedication, commitment, a strong will, concentration and an ability to work on deficiencies and accept criticism are paramount to making the most of ones talent.
Sadly most of those things have not been shown by Jay in his time at the club and i cant help but feel he will get by on talent alone which he will not.
Jay is one of the laziest trainers at RFC as well as a lazy performer on the field and i saw a hell of a lot of him at training and when he played for the Burgers, and he must extract the digit in all facets of his game to help answer one of RFC very pressing problems which is a lack of quality talls.
as i have stated numerous times Jay was barrelled many a time at training by TW and King for being half arsed and not working hard enough or not concentrating. I just think if the club is fair dinkum they will not put up with another season of indifferent performance attitude and application regardless of the ability.
