I disagree. Leave Wallace where he is. Changing coach mid-season has never resulted in a finals berth for any team.

Keep him there and let him suffer the pain that is his grand plan for football at the RFC. Leave him there to be roasted in the media every week. Leave him there as a reminder of what it means to never coach again.

If he walks, fine. But there is no way in hell he deserves any sort of payout for leaving the mess he's left us in.

Completely right...with two provisos though. 1. that we start actively start looking for a replacement coach for next season immediately and 2 He should be forced along with the selection committee to only pick players with an eye to the future. Forget about the finals, even if there is a numerical chance to still play them. The whole Wallet tenure has been about immediate gratification, about short-cuts and topping up. If he doesn't like it, if it goes against his competitive spirit (what a laugh!) and he leaves squealing like a pig to the media about how hard done by he has been, then sobeit. He clown doesn't deserve a single cent payout IMO.

Dear Gary,
4 things you should consider:
- We financial members have been loyal and after all the pre-season hype, we deserve a lot better than the insipid performances this year.
- You should be very very concerned that some loyal members are starting to not care anymore. Or care a little less.
- I'm 60 y.o. and I seriously doubt I will see a Flag in my lifetime. Now what does that tell you about our club Gary? And what are you going to do about it?
- Convince me that I should renew my membership in 2010. Not with spin, just facts.

I feel exactly the same way. Today wasn't the day for a President to be attending a wedding.

The Board must do two things

Firstly no point changing coach so release a public statement that Wallace is here till the end of the year.

Secondly state categorically that Wallace will not coach the Tigers next season.

This gives us the chance to look for a new coach and also play for draft picks.

Gary,

Announce that Wallace will not have his contract extended, but will finish out the year.
Tell the players that the new head coach will be watching them all year, and that they are playing for a spot next year.
Look for a new coach who will come in and demand more from the players, push them to their limits physically, and be ruthless with them if they aren't improving. Malthouse, Matthews, Williams types would be encouraged to apply. As would Buckley, Hardwick, and any assistant coach who has experienced success as either a player or coach at AFL level in the past 5 years.

Tell (privately) Brown, Johnson, Simmonds, Bowden and Richo that their time has come, and that they should retire this year. A complete redevelopment of the list is underway, and it won't benefit their careers.

Tell Chris Newman he won't be captain next year. He does not have enough presence on field, and he needs to move aside for the next generation. We need someone commanding to be our Captain, not the nicest guy.

Tell Matt Hornsby he won't be required next year. With a few exceptions, most of our players look like the teenagers they were drafted as. We are not strong enough to withstand physical football, which is what is required to succeed in the finals.

Look at trading any of our 25-28 year olds that have any currency for an opposing club. Players like McMahon, Newman, Raines would be on the table.
Smacked the nail in with one hit General.

Why this makes sense -
1/ Shuts the media up. A definitive response to what round will Terry be sacked. "Terry will see out the remainder of his contract as head coach of the Richmond Football Club, his contract will not be renewed and he will cease his contractual duties after round 22 this year."
2/ Gives us the ability to openly commence searching and negotiating with the best available coach and have them signed prior to the end of the season. The new coach should have complete access to the club and all the players and staff before the seasons end. The earlier he is able to collect the dead wood and set fire to it the better.

if that happens, terry will walk

Thanks Tommy.

Couldn't care less if Terry walks to be honest Ian, as it will show him for the imposter that he is.

Given he's come out and said he won't quit, several times, I'd expect him to stay. It's too late for him to get many media offers, and with his reputation damaged like it is, he will want to go away and lick his wounds a bit before coming out and reminding everyone just how great he is. He's also hungry for a buck, and I'm sure he won't walk because he'll want his $$$$.

save ourselves some money then and look good in everyones eyes to boot.

my message to march would have nothing to do with wallace we know hes gone its just a matter of when.
i would be saying make sure we have people in charge of list management and recruiting who know what they are doing. make sure of it, insist we adopt a policy of only taking big bodied skilled footballers who can kick. failure to do this will cost people their jobs.
insist list needs are catered to with a 3 yr plan to have the list well rounded like the players we draft. get these areas wrong again it wont matter who the new coach is we will wallow in mediocrity.

i have to put my hand up im not sold on jackson or cameron. im willing to give them a fair go but by crikey we have to make them accountable we have to get the checks and balances in place. we have to draft and manage our list to an over all plan with basic principals in place.
