Zoning

Agree, we need to make sure we have the #1 pick this year.

The time has come for us to stop zoing lets just go back to man on man football.

Agree.

How easy was it for a Melbourne player to stand about 30m out from the goalsquare on his own when they were kicking out after a behind and no Richmond player go near him because it wasn't part of his 'zone'. >:(

Especially in the last quarter when we were chasing the game...it gave them the opportunity to chew up time.

On zoning, I shuddered pre-season when Dermie predicted that increased use of zoning would place a premium on foot skills, and that teams with 2 or 3 suspect kicks will struggle.

Given we field 12 or 13 with suspect kicks every week, the door on our season was creaking shut from the start.

If you want to see what happens to a team who "zones" without the cattle to carry off the pin point passes, look no further than Hawthorn.

Port have worked out the Hawthorn roll. Exploited it brilliantly. Hawks have a few injury worries but teams have had time now to devise plans against the roll which is going to make it alot more difficult for them this year.

Rather be supporting Hawthorn than Richmond right now, Linus.

THe lost art of man on man.
It almost makes me sick when we do not pick up a player and for standing on the mark.
It *smile* me when we back off. We give some player 5-10 to run before they have to kick the ball.
Stand on the mark and make them kick over you.

We seemed to get it right second half of last year.

What has changed since them?

Wallace's ego.

The media built-up this "rolling zone" of Clarkson's and now we try to employ it....but...it doesn't suit us.
