Matt Coulthard

Showed when he came on as the sub on debut against the Hawks last year that he's got something to offer, especially up the ground.

It will be a farce if he doesn't play this week.

Matthew Coulthard (18 disposals, nine marks, three inside-50s, one goal)

“I thought he had a really good game once again. His work rate is just outstanding, and there's great evidence to suggest that despite an interrupted preparation, he can still perform at a really high level.”

Was hoping he'd get a game this week. After having an interrupted preseason he has played every game since missing round 1.
Surely 1 more good game will be enough for him to crack it for another game, he has got the pace, nouse and skills that we are crying out for.

Wonder what’s gone on here?
On the face of it would seem very stiff to be dropped after one game (as sub) for Dreamtime. He struggled a little during the short time he was on but he did kick a goal.
You’d think like others he'd have been given a block of games to find his feet at AFL level. Campbell is probably a better option but wasn’t exactly setting the world on fire before going out but has been brought back in.
Missing at training going by C’s report so a bit of a mystery.

Didn’t something similar happen with Clarke, then we realised he was injured. Wouldn’t surprise if that’s the case with Coulthard given how wonderful the club have been with communicating the season.

Yes, missing training for whatever reason (injured, personal.......) must have something to do with Matty not being selected. On VFL form he should be playing ahead of Steely.

He has been named in the VFL. I can only assume he has either had a personal issue that has affected his week, or that he didnt do the "non-negotiables" last week when on the field.

why hasn’t Coulthard been given a block of games ?
When others just go straight back into the side

Might be his match fitness. He came back after a lay off. Might not have enough in the tank to play afl and giving him a game as a sub where he might only play a quarter won't help him much.

So no one really knows why Coulthard has been dropped to play VFL

you'd think if he wasn't match fit playing him as a sub would be counter-productive to him being such.

Yep, exactly. Give him gametime at VFL to get some miles into his legs.

He'll be back before long, that much in pretty sure of.

Gametime in the VFL and the occasional AFL game, possibly as a sub, would seem the way to go.

But the issue is they really need to tell us what they are doing, it isn't some big secret, just be more transparent.
