This thing is killing over 4% people who get it. It has spread from China around the world in no time and has an exponential infection rate in the early stages. Sure over 95% of deaths are in high risk categories, that means nearly 5% aren't. This is serious and everyone should do everything they can to avoid passing it on to someone who might die because of their selfishness even if they don't care about getting it themself.
What many fail to understand is one the health system is over run with Corona, there's no more health system. Strokes, heart attacks, asthma attacks, no emergency surgery, etc etc go untreated because there's no beds, no one free to help.

Agree entirely. Said that weeks ago a travel ban on the US should have been in place but Scomo didn't have the courage to upset his mate in the Whitehouse.
A stockbroker mate reckons it will get pretty bumpy for the next 4-6 weeks before a recession and a slow climb out. Said a lot of small businesses will go under but debunked my more extreme financial scenarios, so I'll sleep better tonight than I've been doing.

Just in case ya mighta missed it MD. Ya get all of one life, no re runs like on the t.v. My old mum always used to say it's no good sookin n cryin in the corner. The world will just keep right on rollin along without ya. Get in n make the best ya can of life good bad or indifferent when it's done that's it there aint no more.
This is exactly how I see it too. Having a long drawn out complete shut down will do way more harm than good. We should be isolating those most at risk, agree it won't be easy but its not easy now with everyone having to stay at home.
Many businesses will go out of business due to this, I don't buy that it will be a small amount, there are a lot of industries under pressure and we are already seeing job losses. We could easily go from a health disaster to an economic / social disaster following it which would be far more devastating to the world than the health emergency we currently have. We are in for a very rocky road and I'd think total isolation of the highest risk, seems like the most logical solution.

A mate of mine has gone full prepper.
He is a secondary school teacher.
He has dabbled in HSE on the side over the years.
His school published for its community that it was sticking with the gov regs ie social distance, sanitary conditions etc etc etc.
They could not possibly follow the conditions they imposed. 32 students in a class 1.5m apart, let alone supply enough sanitiser and cleaning duties required.
He feels like he is being used as cannon fodder, you go take one for society old mate while the kids are at school society will be safer.
He took his HSE card and played it with the Principal.
Not a popular decision its fair to say.
He stuck to his guns and told her that the school was not providing a safe workplace for him and he has not been back since Wed.
He aint going back until this thing is under control.
He has bleached his house. We have not.
He is taking this as Armageddon, i hope he is wrong.

My sister (teacher) took leave and pulled her kids out of school.
Biggest worry is that the quick rise in cases in the USA is likely based on very inadequate data. Their testing has not been good and I suspect there are far more cases there than they are letting on, or even know about. There would be people in the health system and government who would have more of an idea but it looks like it will explode in the USA and they will be playing catch up for a long time because they don't know the full situation.
