- It looks at the fossil fuel usage required to create "clean" energy producing assets
- It looks at the environmental damage caused by "clean" energy such as land clearing
- It unmasks many a climate change crusader as climate change charlatans and shows that things like Earth Day are pure virtual signalling
- Shows that a lot of organisations that are claiming to be renewable are just burning wood and claiming it as a renewable source of energy
- Really makes clear the firming requirement that is required to back intermittent generation
- Low production life of solar and wind assets

Ok, tell me exactly what it argues about low production life of solar and wind assets. How long does it claim the production life actually is?

The fact this thread has kicked off again is absolute proof that Australia is getting a bit too relaxed with the COVID-19 pandemic.

You do know what renewable means??

DS
The animals they kill to remove these trees are renewable too? Point is it is all about virtue signalling. I bet most people don’t think of burning trees as being particular clean or green which has largely gone hand in hand with the renewable moniker.

Carbon emmissions will definitely be reduced this year due to the virus.
I wonder how they would measure it's impact on the environment?
Be a good litmus test if they could.

Good article here on the drop in CO2 emissions.

If we could sustain this drop in emissions somehow post-pandemic it actually would have a beneficial effect - but we'd still need to cut emissions by the same amount every year for the next decade in order to acheive the Paris goal of 1.5 degrees warming.

Of course that won't happen - economies will ramp up again and CO2 content in the atmosphere will continue to increase. We will live in a different world in the second half of this century, even if we manage to solve power/consumption/agriculture/pandemic/destruction of ecosystem problems.

Will this brief intermission have any effect on the environment? Some, but not much. We are still adding CO2 to the atmosphere, just at a slightly reduced rate. We've seen a nice impact on visible pollution. We've seen animals returning to areas they don't normally go due to the reduced human activity. All these things are temporary.

No new cases of COVID19 in South Australia for 9 days.

So:
  • This must be a hoax cooked up by scientists.
  • The epidemiologists are conspiring to increase their research funding
  • Viruses are always around, we have the flu go around every year.
We can all cherry pick if we like.

But it's still bollocks.

Looks like fossil fuels really are on the way out, thanks to market forces:

And before the conservative right wingers get in to sook about "well how do you suppose we are going to stay rich unless we do the same old same old?", here's the plan for Australia's future:

At what point are we able to measure the impact on the environment of slowing of CO2 emissions in the wake of COVID19?
We will never get a better litmus test as to this theory.
Given industry & fossil fuel burning has slowed so dramatically surely it's got to be having a positive impact??
Where's the data??

We are still producing CO2 and pumping it into the atmosphere, just at a reduced rate, so there is no positive impact. Things are still getting worse from a CO2 forcing perspective - the number of CO2 ppm still is increasing, not decreasing. You might see some short term health benefits given much reduced air pollution in urban areas.

For comparison this graph shows impacts on emissions due to other big economic downturns.

If you were expecting to see a reversal of global warming due to CO2 forcing, you will be disappointed. For that to happen you'd have to actually reduce the atmospheric CO2 content significantly. We are continuing to increase it.
