Watching Geelong floppers but have just seen Woodcock from Port continually over acting and staging for free kicks - quickly becoming another Loathed stager!

Luckily the umpires aren’t getting sucked in.

Geelong are being umpired differently, HTB does not apply to them!

That's not different, happens every week.

Next thing you know you'll be telling us Collingwood is being umpired differently because they seem to have legalised the throw.

How long has the umpires had Category B rookies.
To be eligible, they must have never seen a game of Aussie Rules before.

There was a big improvement in HTB when they applied the strict interpretations. Then a couple of weeks ago they changed it back.

Worst of all they didn't bother to tell the the public who are left scratching their heads or forking out for a new TV.

A big transgression umpires are missing are players going way over the mark to slow down the play. Watch how many point at a spot on the ground to indicate where they say the mark is - often it is 1-2m past where the mark should be. Umpires let them get away with it, simply trusting that because the players are pointing it must be where the mark is. It forces the kick taker back a couple of m and generally holds play up. Enough time for the moment to keep play moving to be missed. You watch any game and the amount of players pointing at the ground as they approach the mark has increased markedly. It's clearly a coached tactic. Umps have to get smarter and just pay the fifty. No warning. Get sick of them telling players who clearly know what they are doing to go back a metre. Often more than once. Just pay the fifty, players will stop doing it and the game will flow better.

Yeah, he looks like a real footballer,

with a real problem.

he'll go the way of Greg-Brian Myers if he doesn't get it out of his game.

I agree, difficult one though.

Very hard to penalise a player until the umpire has indicated where the mark is. I reckon the umpire should point to the mark, player has maybe 2 seconds to move back, a second warning is 50.

It has got out of hand, a bit like how conceding a 15m penalty years ago to slow down play was fixed by making the penalty 50m.

Yeah, agreed, and when the umpire says “back a metre” and the player continues to ignore and the umps just give up!

Yes, I have noticed all this. Pathetic. Like the narrow, post-siren win for the Bloos last night: sure it was dramatic; the only worthwhile part in a dull game; but a succession of questionable decisions leading to the wrong player being able to take the kick.

The AFL is being run by incompetents wherever you look. [But we know that, of course]

I'm predicting we're going to see another final (like the unbelievable Hawkins poster that was awarded as a goal years ago) or a GF that will be due to an inept decision(s).

Just hope it's not us.

Annoying how some players only have to look sideways and it's "Play on!" while others are allowed to make their own angle or wander off the mark with impunity.

Must be difficult to get all umpires on the same page and having the same focus, but they're a long way off at present.

Those new rules of the week tend to last, well, a week.

Another is 15/not 15. They seem to pick on a player at random, usually in defence, and unexpectedly call play on which creates a problem for the player with the ball.

You'd think they could collectively be instructed to make an early assessment - if not sure they could all pay the mark, or they could all issue an early "Play on!".

Would be interested to know more about how they train and whether they do enough group exercises, or it's predominantly individual reviews and fitness.

The ump in the saints-bummers game said quite a few times that the player tried when getting rid of the ball so it was play on. I reckon incorrect disposal is incorrect disposal regardless of whether they tried or not - is this the rule of the week.

Also noticed they paid in the back more often than normal - the saints seemed to do well out of this as a couple of times they looked to throw themselves forward in the tackle and I reckon this interpretation is perfectly designed for teams like the cats. Previously they would call holding the ball or just throw it up when its not an obviou in the back.

They are so inconsistent on this one. I've seen players roam around for ages and no play on, yet others are barely back behind the mark and it is play on.

I figure the players just have to wear this but it makes life hard when you don't know what is going to happen next.

Yep, Lonie is the master of this. Gets him a lot of frees and goals.
