U.S Presidential Election

is this stuff real?

Bloke tasers his nuts? dont tread on me?

its like a kurt Vonneget book

Its also dreadfully sad. The family lamenting this dead lady making it pretty clear she was not a picture of mental health.

Trump's 'army' would not adhere to a Bell curve; at least 50% would be proper unhinged I reckon.

which stands to reason, given the leader has one of the biggest smorgasbord of disorders the world has ever seen

I hope PRE's own nutcases are OK

It's too funny not to be true.

It's too funny not to be true.

my first reaction was to laugh, sure.

But when I reflect on it, I find it tragic.

born pretty dumb, never having much joy in life, disaffected and disenfranchised,

then die bizarrely, stupidly, under instruction from a horrible psychopath

that's fantastic video coverage of the coup attempt Ian, thanks for sharing.

how's the police forming a guard of honour and waving them in? simply extraordinary.

To be fair Ezy what did you expect them to do? By the time they'd got to the sides of the building it was going to be taken. Sure they could have shot a few at the front, but without doubt the crowd would have overpowered them and killed them. What would you do in that situation. Pretty sure you'd have made the same decision as the cops.

The uncontrolled nature of the crowd needs to be reviewed as clearly something went very very wrong. I'd love to know who stopped the National Guard being deployed, it would have to be someone with authority, maybe even Trump himself.

If your paid to flip burgers,

and theres too many burgers to flip,

you flip a couple dont you?

I know what you're saying. But the Capitol Guard is 2000 strong, funded to the tune of 500m a year.

they are supposed to be a highly trained crack unit. Like the Gurkas or Navy Seals. Its a pretty important job guarding the halls of power in the world most powerful democracy.

I reckon those 6 or so waving the overweight flag bearers in through a pretty narrow entrance could have made a bit of a stand, exploded a patella or two?

all the old jokes about running faster than an Italian Infantryman etc

will need to be updated I reckon.

No way. I'm not sure you've got any background in any of this. I did police training in the UK, this was over by the time they got to the walls. All what would have happened if they shot a few was at best they get the *smile* kicked out of them, at worst all 6 of them are dead. Are you seriously advocating for that???

The failures were around allowing the crowd to get that close in the 1st place and with all due respect, even if all 2000 police officers were on duty (which I highly doubt) they wouldn't have been able to hold them back. The failures amount to when the Capitol police can call in backup, no-one came. Why??? Thats the big issue here, not a few officers letting people walk by them once they were that close.

yeah fair enough.

You're no doubt right the seemingly placid reaction probably saved a lot of lives.

and my only relevant experience was looting the Swan St BWS in Sept 2017, at which time I would have happily laid down my life for a bottle of warm Tasmanian sparkling

But the questions are being legitimately asked at the highest level (Biden, Obama),

why a passive approach to law enforcement for fat white people

and a very active approach for black people?

I'm not sure its as simple as that. Someone high up didn't want support for the capitol police, thats pretty clear so who gave the order for them to stand down and not be there for support? The crowd was fairly large from some of the pictures so the capitol police were always going to be over-run. Are the comments are a coup accurate? The more you think about it, the more it makes sense that Trump was engaging that as an option. I'm not sure its a black v white discussion, its more a Trump and his loonies vs everyone discussion.

As for looting the Swan St BWS in Sept 2017, there was a valid reason for that unlike Wednesday :D

The issue might have been people inside letting them in. There is footage of republican senators letting them in and I think police or security.

I agree with all that,

except you simply cannot leave race out of any discussion of Trump and his legacy

Ive read that the Capitol Police had offers of support ftrom multiple agencies in preparation for the day but failed to accept them - they actually have to request help.
They claim the were only expecting peaceful protests (first amendment activities...) and weren't prepared for the riots. By the time the asked for help, it was too late to stop the rioters getting in.
Only 25% of Capitol Police officers were on duty

Whether they were incompetent or complicit is the question

Dont think impeachment is the endgame. No way they get the numbers to impeach, need 2/3 of congress.

Instead this is a squeeze. Now that the bully has lost his support army (Republican politicians) the aim is to pressure trump and convince him to smile off.
Inauguration? Nah dont come but Pence you re welcome son

Its also a double whack as it also splits the Republicans and pressures them to distance themselves from trump

I reckon its implied in that article that the Capitol Police are potentially implicated in this Coup attempt???

seems to be fairly plausible.

thats Coup 101

Its a good call and maybe the leadership of the capitol police will be deemed to be either incompetent or complicit in not having enough bodies on the ground. Clearly 500 cops wasn't going to be enough and dare I say it they were essentially thrown to the wolves. Have no issue with the cops on the ground doing what they did, they were given no support whatsoever. Its like having a flood and putting up a wood partition and assuming it can stop the water flow.

Sounds like a gross abuse of political process to me.

i cant see any evidence that the killing was done by a BLM protestor, as opposed to a "looter" who took advantage of the protests.

also, despite your supposed anti-political stance, it is amazing how all your posts, that arent espousing your libertarian values, are defending right wing politcal views.
