To be fair, he far too often stands behind his direct opponent whilst calling for the ball to be kicked long (and on his head). This nearly always results in an out number as the opposition’s third man arrives whilst our forwards are trying to create separation.
Unfortunately he is only half the player under these circumstances, rarely marks the ball and ineffectual at applying any sort of forward pressure.
Conversely, when he’s on the move and leading up to the ball carrier, his hands look vice like and if he’s not marking it, he’s usually crashing a pack and creating opportunities for the smalls.
Not sure what his instructions are, but I’m often left scratching my head as to why he refuses to lead up to the ball carrier as opposed doubling back and calling for it long and on his head.....dare I say it, reminds me of Tyrone Vickory at times.
he can clunk some seriously good grabs and I'd like to see more , it might be a case of getting his eye in

he does lead up on occasions , but that seems to be more Jack's thing

he does a lot of what we were screaming for TV to do

an enduring memory was from 2019 , Swans Etithad
Dusty was forward and looked like taking a pack grab
Lynch crashed the packed from 3 deep and 1 grabbed the pill and flattend the whole pack
Dusty pulled the angry face and then saw it was Lynch and then saw the ball was stuck in his mitts
the looked of anger turned to joy and he game Tom a little love pat and trotted off

two ticks - one for Dusty and the true joy at someone else doing good (it is a special atmosphere at Punt rd the last 4 yrs )
one for Tom , it was a grab like we come to expect from Richo

we just need more of it

Lynch is the least of our problems.
Fully agree , I think the fork in the road is how do you now rate defensive forwards . Me thinks the more offensive ones will be new again , read kossie Pickett and papley vs impact of aarts and Rioli . We got a lot of think about , reckon a tall replaces one to begin with , cholly IN

Lynch was damn good in the 2nd half.
Whilst the midfield was the bulk of our problems in this match, I thought Lynch was ineffectual when it mattered. The game was over by halftime.
Add to that this year in general he has been an ordinary Key Forward, he needs to step it up.

Again, we're not paying him to be Quentin Lynch, we're paying him to be Travis Cloke or better.

I agree was ineffectual in the first half. But I'm not sure that was all his fault with 3 hanging off him and the rubbish incoming ball. Was excellent in the 2nd half and showed his class. His presence is what allows Reiwoldt to get his opportunities more readily.

I'm sure it was following team rules, but we were struggling to get the ball to the wing. Having a big marking target able to mark the ball there, may have helped. He wouldn't have taken the defenders there, and if he did, greater benefit for Riewoldt.
The biggest concern for me is his marking looks way down on confidence. Others have pointed to his wrestling with defenders as an issue. I'd much prefer to see him use his length to get out and mark the ball in front of him. I know he'll eventually take a mark and it's going to turn around. But if duds from Footscray can kick 10, no reason Lynch shouldn't be doing more in games.

Love Lynchy and reckon he's crucial to our structure.

But I look at him and reckon his knee is not right. runs with a limp and can't get separation. hence the frustration and wrestling. not the lynch that dominated for GC leading and jumping into packs. but still vital as the target man as he can contest and bring the ball to ground.

Lynch loves playing against Poort's midget backline. A fine night. I'll back him for 4+.

Tough gig for our key forwards tonight, couple of genuine key back stoppers at Port
If Tex can kick 16 in 3 weeks then no excuses for Lynch tonight. We need a 6 goal plus game from him. He shouldn't need any extra motivation after their treatment of him last year. Porkins marked everything that came his way in a game v Port last year

Tommy has a fairly good record v Port.

Hopefully he has his straight kicking boot on and can drag us over the line tonight.

Genuine lumps they are quite handy but not guns.

Allir is most effective if left to intercept.

Clurey and Jonas are handy types and honest but they arent Andrews, or McGovern, Balta, May, Talia, Hooker, Weitering or Grimes

Ports defence is their biggest weakness.
