RCD is starting to follow a well worn path to the seniors of some pretty handy former players in Shane Tuck and Nathan Foley They had to wait a long time even after racking up really good performances in the twos. Hope he turns out to be just as good as those two when he gets his chance
Both of those players debuted in their first season. Both played 20+ games and were best 22 in their second seasons. Pretty sure both of them would regularly rack up more disposals in a single vfl match than RCD would in a month.

A quote from Leppa:

"You draft them at 18 to play when they're 22"

Pretty obvious why we gave Riley a 2 year extension till the end of 2022 and I am glad we did.

Riley drafted as a raw project player, due to Covid he has only had
one proper VFL season, does not turn 22 until 2022.

Just because some players are ready to debut before others doesn't mean they will be the better player in the long run, (at least that's what I am hoping).

Transition mids are getting the first look at Richmond whereas Riley still a burst player. I also think he should put some of his energies into becoming dangerous when rotating forward, with his physical attributes there should be no reason why he couldn't become a marking and leading threat when rested there.

I'll leave the negativity to others and just patiently watch and see how the next two years pan out for him.

i am not saying he is a bust, just that his performances to date have not justified an AFL game

Plenty of time left for him, pretty sure he’s contracted next year , he’s always appeared to be a slow burn , at the moment I’d say he’s just not playing well enough , I’m not convinced he’ll make it and I won’t be shocked if he plays 200 games either, has some great attributes, however for me it’s time he does the most important thing and start finding the footy more .

He needs some proper VFL games and then some AFL experience. The mess that was 2020 will have slowed his progress a fair bit but now is the time to step up.

The club are testing this kids mettle I think. Named an emergency again and I bet the other two zero gamers get a gig before him. That want to keep testing him to see if he is gonna drop the bottom lip or just crack on with it I reckon.
He may need to wait until later in the year after he has played a few good games in the VFL and an opportunity arises for his type of role.

Wouldn’t be surprised if other clubs come and ask about him like they did before he re-signed

Hoping RCD puts some performances on the board in the VFL over the next couple of weeks and really lets the selectors know that he's ready to step-up to the big time.

A good game or two might yet see him debut.

The team is not really rolling very well and there are a few not staking their claims to spots.

Aarts, Graham and Ross are the two most vulnerable from tonights crew looking at recent outings.
