Riley's debut was about what I expected.
Didn't look out of place whatsover & his big body is exactly what our midfield needs.
Give him the opportunity to build on a solid first outing against Geelong. Definitely stays in for mine.

What I liked most was his positioning around stoppages. Didn't allow to be pushed aside and remained involved. Needs to keep focusing on this aspect of his game and the rest will follow. It's an area of Ross' game that's dropped away since his early games.

Think it was in the last Q on defensive 50 and he cleared or went through the pack at the stoppage. He didn't win the ball but WBs were cleared out of his way and a teammate followed his path and out with the ball. Good signs for a first gamer.

I noticed that and had my own thoughts but didn't want to post in case ppl thought I was a prick! I've watched him in similar situations a few times. Even during the GF and celebration in the room after he looked emotionless and really uncomfortable. I just think he's either very shy or socially awkward. Caveat I can only base my judgements on what I've seen on TV and game day. It would be interesting to hear @caesar or the guys that go to training opinions. Not that it matters at all as we know it takes all kinds and he's still only a kid. I really like what he brings, It gives us a different dimension. The big body we've been crying out for.
Exactly right sausage. Maybe a bit introverted. Just a POV of his character. I was more than satisfied in the way he played his first game and looking forward to see how he plays more. Another good game next week and the RS nomination has to be there (considering how often our kids miss on winning this)

You don’t appreciate his game at the ground until you watch the replay. He was very good at stoppages.
His development is going to come when he gets the ball on the outside.

Great speech by Chris Hyde at the jumper presentation I thought.

How amazing was it that Hydey played in 10 Grand Finals in a row for the Albury Tigers from 2009-2018.
He was in good form for us too until that massive head knock cut his AFL career short. A real shame given all we now know about concussion.

Did anyone else notice when Riley was standing next to Bontempelli that he looked taller (although a little lighter framed) ? Bont is listed at 193 and RCD at only 189?

Riley when drafted was listed at 193cm. May have grown a little since. He is a very good size for the modern midfielder.

His exact height has always remained an unconfirmed mystery.
Listed as 191cm at the draft and 189cm on the RFC website.
I asked him at Club 80 and he said he wasn’t sure but thought 189cm was closest.
He’s definitely not 193cm

Was noticeably shorter than Balmey at the jumper presentation, that was with his boots on too. Balmey was 194cm's when he played and might've shrunk a bit too.
