Game Day Tiges v Roos

As poorly as Aarts has played this year, George has been even worse.

I agree.

but I repeat, one is a very good footballer, a triple premiership hero, simply out of form.

the other is Jake Aarts.

other than 2021 form, there is no measure by which they can be compared, or uttered in the same sentence.

Lyon and Brown were deplorable yesterday. Special commentary doesn’t just consist of variants of “Richmond aren’t the team they were” for half the game.
Just meedjia finding jobs for the boys to make some noise. Game calling, especially on t.v. needs a main caller, back up caller n one xpurt comments person. Everyone can see what's happening, that's why it's called a teleVISION. Gibbering ex players who just constantly berate on or two insignificant " points " of view are *smile* mind numbing. Can't even watch a game on low volume anymore, it has to be mute.

Eddie CLEARLY barracking for the Tiges against Freo last week on Kayo. He is my favourite commentator because he loves the game so much and has a genuine sense of occasion. A reminder of how footy used to be.

Yeah agree in broad terms but reckon you’re very harsh on Aarts. He’s not best 22 in a premiership team and hasn’t played well since the bye but he has plenty of mates. But he played some good footy for us last year and even early this year. I won’t be crying if he’s not on the list next year (doesn’t he have a contract) but I respect that he has been able to play 30 odd games coming from a long way back. He obviously has resilience in spades.

As for George he was a good player and was important in our 3 flags; will be forever grateful to him. But I think the rule changes may have finished him. I think he’s been close to our worst player this year. His skill level is abominable. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a worse exponent of the handball at this is level; it looks a concept totally foreign to him.

I think young Rioli will be amazing, but definitely can't play him too much as he's played less than 10 games in 2 years and isn't ready for AFL.

Aarts doesnt owe us anything. Came for free, played for cheap, performed a role well up until 2 months ago.

And I have been a bit hard on him lately. hes done his best.

I said from his very first game, and didnt waiver,

that we are a better side without him in it.

On George, I don't think Shocking has finished him off.

He's finished his role off.

hes a good footballer who will be redeployed in the fashion of Danny.

we all thought rule changes and a broken ankle had finished Danny off, to varying degrees, over the last 12 months,

and suddenly he'll be 2022 AA HBF

George needs to get his tackle game back ,but on performance and running surly at this point he must play over future star m Rioli.
6 touches 1 goal against Castanya season average 12 touches ,16 GLS 12pts.

Yeah not sure. Danny has a lot more in his kit bag than George. His skill level is substantially higher and he has proven with his move to the backline to be adaptable.

George’s one wood is the high pressure game and that has been negated by the rule changes. His skill level is poor for an AFL footballer. His kicking is ugly, if he played in the backline his turnovers would kill us. I really don’t see where he fits in going forward. Can he be trade bait? Not sure how many takers we’d get.

But I repeat if he comes back for Moju or Hugo in the last 2 games i would *smile* spew up. That would be 2016 Dimma all over.

Don't know about that, it was exactly what I was thinking too ;) :D

George’s lack of a basic skill set and football nous will cost him. I can’t see him being repurposed for any other role that he would succeed at. Inconsistent kick, poor handball, often misjudges marks. You know, football basics. He runs fast and often. Sometimes even in the right direction.

3 time premiership player who made a contribution, but must be the luckiest ever. Right time, right place. As so often happens.
The team and system made George a player. He didn’t make the team.

If he was up for trade, what pick do you seriously believe another club (if any) would offer? What would he be worth?

I know what you are saying, but I disagree.

if we graft into a semi final against Geelong (not entirely unrealistic, we beat swans in an elimination, dees beat cats in a qualifying and its on like donkey kong)

I want George in the side over those 2 kids.

Not to say those kids don't have a bright future.

But finals = chaos

and George is still King Chaos

Moju has played one game! Give him a chance to find his feet. No better time than now. We’re not likely to play finals and even if we sneak in we’ll get bundled out straight away. Not much point and a good long rest for our list and a full pre season would be critical to get us back on track in 2022.

Regardless I’d rather give Moju a run ahead of George in any circumstances at the moment. George has been outright putrid this year. Has contributed basically nothing to the team.

Past performance isn’t necessarily an indicator to future performance. I don’t trust George to get back to what he did in 2017-20. He looks gone. Him and Lynch have been the two most disappointing players for us this year.

Yep. I'm still trying to work out how we can get Tommy firing again. The forward structure doesn't help. We need to play Tom one out and play other forwards wider. Caddy as a decoy leading forward would be handy to open up Lynchy's corridor. Our forward line usually looks too crowded in the hot spot 20 metres in front of goal.
Further, the hesitation in our ball carriers and backward kicks and handballs play into the hands of intercept defenders.

Recruiting needs should be centred around straight line runners. This is why I'm excited about Hugo (Bryan Wood) Ralph Smith.

Indeed, I think it too cos it’s true but you don’t need to be a special comments commentator to know this (and repeat it again and again and again….)

Teams now block is space in front of him to run into and he is regularly held in packs and I think the club is really frustrated that the umpires continually ignore it.

Geez give junior time to find his feet, trying to compare MRJ with Castagna on his debut game is pointless.

Nah.

George and Dynastical Richmond Chaos were a mutualistic symbiosis.

He fit a very specific niche. And fit it perfectly.

But he is not, and has never been, a talented footballer. He has athleticism. That's it.

He can't kick, can't handball, can't make a decision under pressure, has no vision, no creativity, can't find the ball or break a tackle.

He is an okay grab, a good tackler, with great acceleration and elite agility.

I've said this for years, but there's no point in a great sidestep if you keep using it to step into trouble.

He is not out of form. This is Castagna. His one wood has been taken away from him. And he has no other clubs.

Is uniquely specialised in what he does. He cannot play another position. He can't go to the backline. He can't play the wing. And there's no more role for his type of small forward.
