7 News saying Chol going to the Suns on a $400k × 4 year deal. Hmmm

If so, would probably be a Band 3 componsation (top 30 to 49%) which would be a second round pick = pick 27.

Reckon it will only be a 3rd rounder

I think around $800k is a top tier pick.. They take contract years into account too. If a 4 year deal at $400k then it would be 4th band pick..

Inside top 50% is end of second round.

Sorry, corrected my initial post - Would likely be Band 4 end of second round or Pick 38.

If $400k x 4 years than good luck to Chol.

YES. I'm tipping a 4th rounder too.

RICHMOND CEO Brendon Gale has expressed the club's disappointment at receiving only a second-round compensation pick for losing free agent Brandon Ellis to Gold Coast.

The two-time premiership Tiger officially became a Sun on Saturday when Richmond chose not to match the Suns' lucrative five-year deal.

The AFL announced the reigning premiers would receive a second-round compensation pick (currently No.39) for Ellis, rather than the first-round selection the club had hoped for.

At worst it would be a Band 5 (50% to 70%) which is a 3rd round pick = 45.

A 4 year deal would surely bump it up to Band 4.

Isn't it a 3 yr deal w triggers for a 4th?
Is this still defined as a 4 yr deal?

Really leaning towards the draft now. Hit it hard, take some medicine now so we can turnaround much quicker. You’re out of form in the seniors next year, you’re out of the team. No more carrying anyone like this season.
Develop, develop, develop.

2017 draft what a disasterm
While Footscary loads up on McNaughton and Smiths.
We have our 21 and 22 year olds walking out the door.
No more tall duds from South Australia

We did win 3 flags in that time , alternately we could have finished bottom 4 ea year and CCJ plays plenty of football for us

Blair really needs to get to work now if we still want to be any chance next year. Astbury, CCJ and Chol out the door. We need to at least two replacement talls otherwise the cupboard is completely bare outside of our first choice talls. They don't have to be world beaters but they need to at least be able to play a role if need be whilst any new drafted talls develop.

The other way to look at this situation is that we can move forward with a better balanced list.

The drafting of Samson was a real head-scratcher but could prove an inspired move. Let's hope he can step up, if required, next season.

I look at the Dogs and see a well balanced list. English and Martin are their first choice rucks with Young and Sweet developing (not sure Young is a genuine ruck but he was used as the second tall until Martin came back into the side).

That's it.

Having Nankervis, Soldo, CCJ, Chol, Samson and Colina is at least one, if not two, talls too many for the way the game is played. Heck, we can use Lynch and Balta as relief rucks if required ... much like the Cats use Hawkins and Blicavs.

In my view, we desperately miss three characteristics right now: midfield grunt, transition/wing pace and forward flair.

Hitting the draft hard is risky, but if the trade targets just aren't there, you aim to come out the other side with a list that better suits today's game.

I'd be comfortable if the draft yielded:

1x inside mid
1x pacy winger, ideally with elite foot skills
2x x-factor forwards
1x tall forward

And I'm all in on a Tarrant / Talia type to fill the Astbury position, in concert with Miller. Might have a different view on this if we weren't in the window for more success.

Hopefully we can use whatever picks we end up with to draft for needs and move up to wherever we need to be to get those players.

TL;DR ... not devastated at losing two talls.

The Age says Chol compo will be 3rd round FWIW.

And the draft points for 40, 44 and 45 are equivalent to pick 15 if we can make that happen somehow.

And yes, I know we already have pick 15. :geek: But what if we were to trade for Geelong's 2022 pick and hope they slide this time so we have another two first rounders next year?
