2021 Draft Thread

We're still in the race, that's good to know. Kangas 2022 pick on the table. Let's get it done!
Freo have traded out '22 picks and have a terrible draft hand for '22 so that's the opening.

North's '22 2nd round pick is probably of equal value to Freo's pick 21. Would they want more? If that was good enough we could possibly trade one of our 3 x 2nd round picks into next years 2nd round with another club.

The other option would be 1 of our 3 pick x 2nd round + our '22 2nd round.

Reports around that us and Hawks are very keen to deal with Freo to get the first pick tonight and nab Johnson. If true it's hard to see how we could outbid the Hawks given both their next picks are before ours.
Wouldn’t surprise me if we were flagging an interest to try to make the Hawks pay a high price. I’m not sure we’re particularly interested in Johnson as we’ve never really been linked with him. However, we have been linked with Sonsie and Butler, both of whom are likely to be in the Hawks’ sights, so if we can make them trade out both their seconds it increases our chances of one of Butler or Sonsie sliding to us.

I reckon Freo would want our North pick next year plus one of our three picks next year for them to trade out 21.

I like both Butler and Sonsie and would love one to be available at our picks. If the hawks take Butler, maybe that reduces the chance they take Sonsie as they are similar types?
Just to reiterate, this is from a phone conversation with a friend who is in the Hawthorn coterie. It’s very much in the “handle with care” space !!!

Somewhere in our picks tonight we need a clearance midfielder. That is my only wish

How do we beat Hawthorn to the punch? If the Hawks walk away with Ward, Johnson & Sonsie I will be scratching my head a little.
Freo will take Johnson with the next pick. Two of our three seconds plus next years second should be enough to top the Hawthorn offer?

I think that's too much, better to have picked him at 17. I'd be fine with a couple of picks & then roll the dice on a smokey in the 4th round. If we look at the deal as say Johnson & Browne /Dittmar then it makes sense. My only question is whether the club actually wants him, I'm starting to have my doubts.

No way offering that crazy we're not that desperate and not convinced on Johnson.

Because IMO Johnson is the best still on the board by a considerable margin, but this in a group that collectively is better than most years first round.

Willing to push hard to get him, but happy enough to know that if we fail and are left to take three of those that remain that we can still walk away with what will be a hugely successful result.

I'm not convinced aswell we're in to him.I reckon we want Sonsie and Taylor there great gets. McDonald still there , Draper, Goater , still great value and fix our midfield up. What's your order now BH names we can get great value ?.Do see us getting a development key forward.

I reckon pick 26 & North's 2022 second is a great deal for Freo. Or simply package 26 & 27 together and then activate pick 74. It's entirely doable & Hawthorn will be thinking along the same lines.

You have summed it up perfectly. I think we should have gone gone at 17.
The clubs obviously has a different opinion.

Happy enough with Brown but would still chase Johnson, however got to think the Club knows a great deal more than we do.

I'm steering clear of the forwards this year, I think we're better placed to target a tall next year. I also think there's a hint of forward potential with Gibcus, failing that we could even look at Balta at CHF and Gibcus at CHB. As for my wishlist, I'd have it Johnson, Sonsie, Goater, Taylor, Butler & then Howes. If we get three from that group then it's an A grade draft.

I dont think freo take johnson.

If your gonna restrict yourself to WA kids, they might as well join the WAFL.

Diversification. Victoria may have beaten WA by 20 goals and they take 3 kids out of the B-grade?

The chances that the 3 best available were all on their doorstep are miniscule.

Someone else will take him before us, but i dont reckon its freo.

Id like him, but i like The Sonz more

Looking at that order I think you would agree that it is not possible with the picks we have.
Howes, Knivett and Feju look more likely.
Still want Johnson, but…
