Can't recall being this angry about an incident 2 days after a game. Just a very uncomfortable angst about what happened to Dion.
Has there been any recent update n the club about his health?

When is Sniper up, tonight or 2moro night?
I hope Meatball is ok of course, but I am hoping club doesn't mention anything about his current state until after the Sniper gets dealt with.
No free tickets out.
Was no accident. Was targeted by Salty and Sniper pulled the trigger for him.
Should get full penalty whatever that is.
I would like 6 weeks minimum.
Like you guys I am also still seething.

Pretty close to the Knights Libba incident. But with the Prestia snipe, I am still fuming and won't forget it while Stewart is playing.

Was thinking the same myself. Stewart's going to be on our black list for some time now. I've softened up on Libba a bit, but if I reminisce a bit deeper....

The actual incident was bad enough but what I find totally unpalatable are the events that followed the hit.
Umpires refusing to stop the game whilst a player is semi conscious and lying in the field of play whilst our team is forced to play for extended minutes with a player down. Of course a goal ensues.
Then the incorrect classification of careless intent after officially confirming on their website that it was graded as intentional, and then editing, as if someone has retrospectively influenced the grading.
The endless media diatribe stating almost immediately after the event and heavily weighted in Stewart’s defence based on his personality traits are just further fuel to my raging fires.
I can honestly say my passion for football is now evenly split between my love for RFC and my hatred of the AFL and what they’ve done to our game.
I barely have enough hatred left for opposition teams and players. There’s not enough hatred to go around

They keep saying that our doctors should've called for the stretcher to stop the game, but I'm sure these flogs would be able to override these decisions if it wasn't done.

Particularly when Ump saw it and paid a free kick, and reported him! So surely has a duty of care to the player victim

At least we did something that day
We went in and tried to rip Libbas head off.
What was Nakas doing?? Shouldve put The Dog into the fence.
That hit was on purpose, accidentally kod 2 of our 2 best player in the last 2 years.
And the AFL has done nothing about it.
If pickett kod Stewart..Pickett would miss 8.
How these pricks are accepting of only 3 or 4 weeks, is getting me angry.
Would the media be calling for 3 or 4 weeks if it was Bradshaw or Neale on the end of the Ko??

Agree but seems like our med staff dropped the ball as well. I saw our trainer waving at the bench shortly after the incident. I'd hope the umpires are told they stuffed up on this, as it's damn poor to have play going on around a player with a head injury.

Get well soon meatball we need you out there.

Did our docs call for the stretcher for Bakes when he went down? No. Did the umpires stop play then?
I wasn’t following it too closely at the time and haven’t watched the replay. If they did then the fact we didn’t call for a stretcher for Dion shouldn’t matter. Umpires can stop play anytime they want

Many umpiring decisions overruled by non controlling ump
Wouldnt surprise me if someone’s in their earpiece directing umps
Shouldve stopped game when Dion went down They may have wanted game to roll on so there’s no retribution

There was only one trainer with Dion straight after the hit, then another trainer went and helped. I think they were trying to get more assistance from the Richmond bench in calling for the Doctor, more worried about his condition than a stretcher at that time. One of the umpires (3 on the *smile* ground) should of seen the drama and went over asked the question "is the player ok"? But didn't, then play was going on around him and still no stop in play, umpires a lot more at fault than the RFC medical staff.

One thing about this whole incident, Dion Prestia is one tough prick the way he walked down to the rooms by himself for the concussion test after that hit.

Does everyone remember the ending of the Tigers game v Swans? The 50 metre kick v 'common sense' decision that the kick OOBs was so close to the siren, that the AFL went with the 'common sense' approach.

I agreed with the umpire's call BTW.

What is staggering is that the next morning, almost immediately - was it 9.01am?? the AFL couldnt wait to release the message that they had reviewed and signed off on the call. My god, they must have not even headed out for their Lattes but rushed to get that release out there asap. No way the Tigers were robbed, quick let everyone know We, the AFL have reviewed it and it was perfect.

Two days later, nothing from them about the game continuing whilst Dion was knocked out and not being stopped for a few mins. They are such a joke.

‘Like a minor car crash’: Stewart clash raises questions about concussion message

Jon Pierik

Veteran player agent Peter Jess has questioned whether the threat of life-altering brain trauma is getting through to AFL players and a dual premiership player has called on the league to take action after a week in which a dangerous tackle and a bone-crunching off-the-ball collision left two players concussed.

Geelong’s Tom Stewart will front the tribunal this week after his clash with Richmond’s Dion Prestia at the MCG on Saturday, when the veteran Cat bypassed the ball to upend his opponent – an incident which has again sparked calls for a send-off rule.

This came a week after Giants ruckman Brayden Preuss was suspended for a match for a dangerous tackle on Western Bulldog Tim English in round 14. It left the ruckman briefly motionless and may have contributed to his concussion. The Dogs say he took several hits that evening. The concussion is English’s third in as many seasons, and he remains in concussion protocols and is in doubt for Thursday night’s clash against Brisbane.

These incidents come in a year when Jess, using his own private data, says there almost certainly will be more than 100 concussions across professional and semi-professional football in Australia, including the AFL.

The AFL has strengthened its policies and education, including introducing a medical substitute last season, but recent incidents have enraged Jess, who is at the front of a potential class action should the league not introduce a brain trauma compensation fund.

“Tom Stewart showed his fellow professional footballer no respect in the nature and extent of the hit,” Jess said.

“You can be sorry after the event, but we don’t know what the long-term damage will be for Dion. The collision at that velocity is like a minor car crash. It doesn’t kill you, but it hurts you in the long term. We are pretending to make the game safe. It is simply not safe.”

Stewart’s bump was classified by the match review officer as careless (but not intentional) conduct, severe impact and high contact and was sent directly to the tribunal, meaning he faces a minimum three-match ban. But the Cats may argue it was high – not severe – impact, which under the league’s guidelines is a two-match suspension.

“We will not last as a code if this action is not stamped out,” Jess said.

Dual North Melbourne premiership player David King said excuses had too often been made for the offending player, and the tribunal needed to make a statement with Stewart.

“The line-ball ones have favoured the player who has laid the bump over the past three years. You [AFL] have taken us to this situation. Enough is enough. Either take a stand or get rid of the whole stance against head trauma. Once and for all. It’s been absolute crap to this point,” King told Fox Footy.

“What about Dion Prestia who is relying on the game to protect his safety?”

Collingwood great Nathan Buckley said a four-match ban was required.

“I think three is the minimum and I think it’s likely to be three or four depending on how it comes down given the submissions of Geelong and Richmond,” Buckley said on SEN.

Leading neurophysiologist Dr Alan Pearce, a researcher on concussion and the degenerative disease chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), said dangerous tackles needed a higher grading if sports were serious about athlete health and safety.
