Clearly, not as good as the week before. Still, I think he did some good things. Again, watching the replay after having been at the game, i saw some great tackling and good clearances around the ground.

Played against seasoned mids, strong bodied mids at the Eagles. I hope he plays these next few games, we really need to see the potential upside.

I reckon Rossy should take Goerge under his wing and do some kicking skills, and after yesterday, some handballing too.

Not ready to be our number 1 Midfielder yet, but that's what he had to play on Sunday.

He does grow in to games, and had some good moments late. He can run.

3 clearances. 3 tackles. Middling but contributing.

Really similar game to Shorty. Both players will work best when backing up one or two of Prestia/Cotchin/Martin/Lambert/Bolton.

I'm not sure a midfield of Baker/Graham/Ross/Short/Bolton will get it done at this point. Maybe in 3-4 years. There's skill, pressure, toughness and run there, but not a lot of size. They will get bullied. And did.

Ross went at 94% DE in congestion, and had 5 inside fifties. Like last week, a lace out goal assist to Jack. I've heard here that he is slow and can't kick, but I've never seen it.

He has a combination of inside and outside game. Can stand up in a tackle. Good vision. Gets dirty.

We've been spoiled by Dusty Cotchin Prestia and Bolton, but this is a footballer. Get some X factor around him, then set and forget.

I like him, but I just don't think he's quite good enough. Too vanilla, and his vanilla traits aren't quite good enough. If he was the inside beast some people think he is, that would be fine, but he isn't. The numbers don't lie. If had some tricks, even just one trick, a long accurate kick, good in the air for his size, break a tackle, he'd probably make it as a footsoldier. We don't have a lot of alternatives ATM so he'll keep getting games, and I hope he can acquit himself well.

Played a good game last week, one out of the box for him, but that needs to be the norm. Hope it happens but can't see it.

To paraphrase Graham Greene, he's not far off, but being not far off means he's miles off.

I don't necessarily disagree.

He needs to develop his one wood. Inside work. If he doesn't become an elite clearance player, then he will probably end up a fringe player.

Right now he's an okay inside mid, which is no mean feat at AFL level. But he showed in his first season at VFL (and AFL) that he could be better. Then injuries, COVID happened, VFL halted and development stalled. And it's hard to develop inside, when he has been played on the wing. Either to develop his outside game, or because our midfield until now has been impossible to break in to.

He's still growing. His endurance is good, his footy iq is high, so his good traits will improve. He'll find more ball outside, and I think he'll add some goalkicking.

But he does need a forte.

yeah. My own view is the early bullishness on his inside game was based on a bit of wishful thinking rather than substance, thought it at the time and haven't seen anything to change my mind, but I could be wrong.

The Geelong game impressed me, more for his outside work, but I thought he may be able to pinch hit as an inside mid, which as you say is no small thing, rather than thats what he is or thats what he could be.

He's almost a clone of Graham for me. Both good additions to the midfield, but aren't the x-factor that you need to win premierships (and you wouldn't expect them to be with where they went in the draft (Ross at 43, Graham at 53). If Cotch ends up retiring then he would provide a similar albeit weaker replacement, similar in that he would provide the defensive toughness, just without that explosive attack on the footy that Cotch presents, however having 2 strong defensive mids is good for us, allows us to provide access to the footy for the quality ball users.

Just need to supplement them with a clearance beast.

Was used down back last season as well as the sub 6 times, and was played on the wing earlier this season. Hasn't been allowed to settle into his best position, which is midfield.

Play him in the guts for the rest of the year.

I reckon he can make the grade, for mine he's got a good footy IQ, he might not be a superstar, but I think he can be very good foot soldier.

Cotch & Dion are our Batman(s) but Cotch won't be there for much longer, then we'll need another.

As Men at Work once asked " Who Can It Be Now". That's the interesting question

We'll find out over the next trade & draft periods.

He was playing VFL 3 weeks ago. Was always going to be a big task to back up & carry the load after last week.

Particularly with Cotchin and Prestia out and Martin playing a half. I'm not a fan, but he gets a mulligan off that game.
