5 goals - wow , 8 disposals hmm , didn't get bags of disposals in the VFL , my concern is in a final he might return stats like 3 disposals no goals
hope the coaches can work on his game and add to his natural ability
Cumba will not be paid to rack up possessions. He will be paid to do ONE thing. He will not do it every week. And you can bet your ass close attention is coming. But this is a player we've been screaming for for 5 years. Somehow Towner pulled out 5 miracle games in 2017. Castagna has been Castagna for the rest. But this guy is an upgrade of epic proportions. Footy smarts galore. Goal sense that CANNOT BE TAUGHT. Wants to win. Wants to succeed. Has tricks. Has speed. Has power. This is the type of player who you NEED in BIG GAMES! The type of player the oppo has to watch for 120mins or else 3 kicks equals 3 goals. I am a massive fan.

And is dog hungry after being made to wait way too long to strut his stuff.

As much as I think Castagna is a limited footballer, he had a spot in the team until someone demanded that spot from him.

Cumbo has now done that, and well done to the kid for doing it so comprehensively.

Unfortunately, it took the coaching group and match committee too long to recognise it, but he's here now to stay.

Kicking goals AND applying defensive pressure. He does both! For too long, too much focus was on the defensive pressure aspect.

And most importantly, I enjoy watching this kid play, he makes things happen!

Why wasn't a free given to Bolton for being tackled around the neck when the ball was dead?
Cos Bolton softly bumped him on the way past. Unfortunately Balta wasnt shown the same latitude when a Lion started banging into Jack after he gave a free away.
The Lion hit Jack harder than Bolton's hit, then the Lion hit Bolton harder than Balta push. But the Lion's got a 50 and goal and we got nothing. Except the win.

Just posted in the matchday thread about Cumbo, but thought I'd put something similar here.

Mental fortitude - Many kids would have slipped into their shella nd blamed themselves after last week, not this kid. He comes out and wins the game the week after. Shows huge mental fortitude for a 21 year old, and incredible drive for success.

His 5 goals were all different as well, the first was driven through sheer will and determination, the 2nd was easy from the downfield, the 3rd was showing great speed and goal sense out of a F50 stoppage (this could be gold for us if we can get him to replicate this), the 4th was hugely skillful, the outside of the boot dribbler was outstanding, and the 5th showed the big boot the kid has with a goal kicked from around 50m.

Outstanding game and a fantastic start to his career.

Wow what a game. Great set shot from 50 & the way he celebrated after his half smother ended up in the mark to Lynch shows a bit about him as well. Didn't get a stat but played a huge role in the goal.

Averages 11.8 disposals at vfl level. 12.2 disposals in 2022. Has a high of 20 disposals in r13 last year where he also kicked 5.3.

If you take out the game where he was the unused sub, he’s averaging 11 disposals match at AFL level.

On what we’ve seen so far, I don’t think he has issues finding the ball.

Gotta love his confidence.

When we need a goal he's the one that would go deep one out (like we do with Dusty).

Basically a key forward with elite pace/agility.

Dimma reckons he lacked footy IQ when he arrived at Richmond.
Apparently walks around with a notepad but now has to keep it under lock and key because Castagna is trying to steal it

Good stuff. I just thought I'd take a look at those that are kicking the highest scores of small forwards in the comp and compared Cumbo to them. Sure its a small sample size for Cumbo with it only being 4 games, but its a pretty bloody good start against some of the best in the comp.

Its stupid that an unused sub counts as a game - stupid AFL - fix it.
