Looking back at the 2018 draft, the talent available really started to thin out around pick 19-20 which was when RCD was taken. Two of the next three players picked after RCD haven’t even played a game yet!

Easy to call this pick a bust but that doesn’t take into account what was available and we can see in hindsight that not much was available.

The shackles have been off the past fortnight but again I wonder if that's because he knows he doesn't have a future at Richmond. No surprise to see him overlooked this week.
prob more to do with the opposition. North's 1sts are barely VFL standard, let alone thier 2nds, and Willy are now rubbish. (Maybe they had no hope anyway, but the AFL destroyed previously strong VFA clubs with the way they have run the VFA/VFL in the last 20/30 years.)

His mums don't even barrack for us. Doubt they are saying nice things about the club at home. I think environment would be all about Riley not RFC which may help explain some things

From what I’ve seen over RCD’s journey is he lacks speed & endurance - need at least one or the other irrespective of skill level.

He’s good at winning contest and an ok ball user at best. Could have been a solid AFL player if only he could run all day (not sure he can - he’s undoubtedly tried, but maybe it’s just not in him).

For his sake, I hope he’s given it his all while at RFC, otherwise he’ll always be left wondering ‘what if’.

IMO I would persist with him for 1 more season (unless his papers have already been stamped). He would be no better than a 3rd or 4th round pick.

Drafted in 2018 into a team about to embark on back to back flags, with our well document riches in the middle. Very hard to crack into. Come 2020 covid hits, VFL stops, development and continuity impacts many players. 2022 is the first full season of football for a few years.

What has kept him from more senior football? Attitude ? Defensive efforts? Tank ? Two way running? Disposal efficiency? A 191cm midfielder is exactly what we need, perhaps he is one that takes a few seasons to come on. I would persist here, one more preseason and see what he can do in 2023. Even if Cotch plays on you can see he and Presia play all 22 games in 2023.

He had the best learning environment imaginable and he still doesn't look competent at VFL level in 2022.

That's failure from a highly privileged position

The biggest problem with RCD is I don't think he has any awareness. For weeks now, I've watched him run into tacklers. He either thinks he's an absolute bull and can burst through them (which he can't) or he has no awareness where players are. If he is being found out with this at VFL level 4 years into the system, there is very little chance he makes it at AFL level IMO. You don't want to be constantly handballing or kicking whilst being tackled.

Not many fifth year players (which RCD will be next year) that are outside their clubs best 25 players go on to a meaningful careers.

Another season put in to RCD is time not spent developing someone else. The likes of Cumberland show that there is talent available in the second and third rounds of the draft but you have to be prepared to churn your list somewhat to find it. Both parties tried, it didn’t work so it’s time for everyone to move on.

Completely agree. He's handy to have at VFL level, but let's not clog up a spot on the AFL list. People keep looking at his size and thinking he's an inside bull prototype. The reality is he has no clear strengths to suggest he is, and too many other limitations to make it at AFL level.

I suspect the trade period will determine the fate of RCD.

Essendon generally keen on our VFL players, but prefer to mid season draft them, rather than pay for them.

I just think he is a boy that peaked at 17-18 yo. He was biggish for his age and that works against other younger guys but not so against mature bodied players. I played against kids that to me at the time were giants in juniors and then watched them in later years running around in the twos while I was warming up with the seniors. Time to let RCD go to other opportunities and look for someone else.

That's some commitment. I was on the wagon until midway through this year, where it was more hope than expectation he'd come good.

I think we've seen the best we're going to get out of RCD. Maybe he can get another gig somewhere else, and get a different coach and different game plan, and still make it.
No point trying to rebuild this bandwagon. I'm off the wagon and used whatever bits of wood I could get to have a bonfire. He's done with us.
