Some are being pretty harsh on him.

Conditions were awful yesterday for marking forwards due to the wind. It also doesn’t help when you rely on a very mediocre midfield for supply. On top of all that, he’s 191cm and 80kg which is third tall size at best yet he’s being asked to play as the primary marking target in the forward line.

Given his size and attributes, I still think he’s going to find it tough to carve out a decent career. However, the club is doing him no favors making him the main target up forward. His best chance is playing a secondary role role up forward or as others have suggested, third tall down back.
I remember J Schulz running around on a windy day in our vfl and not getting near it. G Ablett would have struggled. Less than a year later he was tearing it up for Port.

Trouble is, key forwards now are close to 200cm and Bauer is 192cm. That is not short by any stretch of the imagination. He is going to have to be that much better than comparable players to succeed. It can be done and he has some attributes which will help. But like Cumberland he is going to have to be a little bit better and a lot smarter to make it. Not familiar enough with Bauer, but if he is strong and can read the game well he could be a very good key forward.

Just as an aside, Jack Riewoldt is 193cm, so only 1cm taller. It can be done.

Charlie Curnow is 192 cm. Bauer just needs another 7 kg.
Can’t wait to see him with a preseason in our system, builds some more kgs and learns the craft from Jack.
Has nice hands and kicks straight.

Club obviously saw something in the kid to offer and agree to an eighteenth month contract.

Similar height to Curnow / Darling Obviously doesnt have the same shape but if he is good enough will make it. Seems like an interesting cat based on some of the comments I heard from him on Sunday at the game. Really dry sense of humour.

There's a few handy exceptions, Ablett 185cm's, Dunstall and Modra were 188, Hudson 189 and Plugger 191.

Great to see him have a soft kill

Like a adolescent lion taking down an antelope with a limp

Plenty to work with

Yeah, but key position players have been getting taller. Put Bauer in a 1990s team and he towers above most of them. Jack Dyer (ruck) was 6'1" which would only be about 186cm.

I reckon he's a chance, just pointing out it is harder for those who aren't close to 200cm these days.

If it was just on height Joe Daniher would be a superstar.

Agility, speed endurance will be the keys

Yeah and Jack Riewoldt is "only" 193cm too, Mihocek is 192cm, Fogarty 194cm, Jack Darling 191cm.
..Jack Gunston 193 cm Bailey Fritsch 188cm
so not much of a difference to Bauer 192cm

I've got no doubt Bauer will benefit playing alongside Lynch and in the future Ryan.

Most of the recent premiership sides have had twin tails.

I do think if you're good enough size is not a critical factor, if you've got reasonable speed and skills.

Shai and Prestia are examples of that. Prestia was giving away 8 inches to Cripps in round 1, but had it 10 times with 2 clearances in the first quarter before he did his hammy.

The old, not the size of the dog in the fight.................

He's got enough height to compete, but the big differentiator is that he's an aerial prodigy. Lots to like about this kid.

True. But with Lynch hitting 30, you'd like to see more KPF options. I maintain the cupboard is still bauer
Agree need to pick up at least one in the draft this year. You really only succeed with 1 in every 4 or 5 you pick up
