I enjoy and like Whateley's work btw

As I've said before he is a considered, erudite voice in an industry too heavily slanted to boofhead ex-footballers who can barely string a sentence together
Do Jobe Watson’s “sentences” count as such? I think you are being generous.

So what you’re saying is it’s too hard, let’s forget about an inexplicable and potentially corrupt decision with massive ramifications to the biggest sport in the land. You’re saying this leading AFL journalist should just drop it because it’s too hard?
Seriously? That makes him an even bigger AFL sycophant.

Can’t get him on his show? You’re funny.

I still don't understand what you expect him to do? Brad Scott isn't going to come on their show and discuss it, they went hard at it and were highly critical of it and gave Richmond a platform to do the same.

What else can they do? Ultimately it is flogging a dead horse because the AFL is going to say the official made the call and that's the end of it and they are right. Regardless of it being the wrong decision, once the call is made it is made and everyone has to cop it sweet, just the same as any other bad call.

As much as we hate the decision the rest of the footy world moves on.

Damn. I must be doing things wrong, happen to like most of TBR's posting. Don't always agree with him ( but who does ). Usually manages to carry a good argument / conversation rationally without hanging *smile* on or abusing anyone who doesn't agree with him.
If being able to have a different opinion and being able to articulate his points n views clearly is appearing to be superior to others then I'm thinking they're having conversations in the wrong place or with the wrong crowd.

The whole idea of having a forum is so that everyone one can stick in thoughts and opinions regardless of their supposed knowledge, contacts or influence around the game, yet for some reason people start to go heavy on the insults when some don't follow the narrowest of mantra.

Thanks TM, appreciate the support. I've probably inadvertently embarrassed a few people over the years by pointing out things they thought they knew and didn't, especially about the rules and the easy option is to shoot the messenger.

Water off a duck's back though, I always think getting personal on an internet forum gives you a good window into character. Iused to ignore people who did that, now I let the world see them for who they are.

And I must admit I get a little bit of satisfaction when people feel the need to broadcast ignoring me. ;)

All that Richmond fans are asking for is to see the so called video vision that unequally confirms that Lynch's shot at goal was a behind.

It's simple, show us the footage that the ARC used to overturn the umpires soft call and which the AFL said proved that it was a behind.

Yeah, I get that and if it exists I'd love to see it as well. But they ain't showing it and they will just continue to say the decision was made and they have moved on.

A simple apology, saying we lied, there is no video footage will suffice.

Wouldn't we all love to see that n then all be forced to simply STFU.
Never gunna happen though. Old mate Gilligan, the grand Poobah of the AFL has come out a week ago n said " all good, nothing to see here " and firmly put the matter to rest as Gilligan always does when something untoward happens.
Simply can't beat covering a *smile* stain in the bed with a blanket, keep it hidden long enough n the stench will gradually fade away. Gilligan's got an endless supply of soft wooly blankies.

I’d like them to acknowledge they made an error in their process and say what they are doing to prevent recurrence. I’d imagine part of the issue is they have put pressure on making quick decisions when the evidence is obvious. This creates an environment ripe for high consequence error because if for whatever reason you think it’s obvious (Eg one picture over a post confirmed by lynch looking annoyed) then you are completely shut off from fixing it. There was one last night where it looked to be a mark before it went over the line. But the camera was right behind the post so you couldn’t know if the ball was in the players hands. But they made a quick decision and called it a mark. To me there was no way it was compelling to overturn. Same time pressure process.

Having lead many incident investigations, there are almost always 5 or 6 things that go wrong when shocking errors happen. I.e. usual person away or impaired for some reason, time pressure, supervisor has let things slide in the past etc etc. people make mistakes. Always. So any system has to be tolerant of and expect mistakes and have ways to catch them.

Unfortunately I have absolutely zero faith that the AFL has any interest in being a learning organisation so will be beyond shocked and surprised (very pleasantly) if we see anything like this. While they keep the time pressure on this stuff will happen again.

I'm interested as to why we haven't heard anything more from our club.

After making such a public declaration of asking the AFL for more information, it seems strange to me we haven't had an update. I'd be interested in what communication they have had.

There is no vision. Everyone knows it. The as ARC guy was looking at the same vision we were on the TV. He bizarrely made his decision on Lynch's reaction I think.

We (the club) need to keep pressing the AFL on this, it will be a nice legacy forMcLachlan to go out on, and will show good cause that the next AFL CEO should not be an internal appointment.

Think I’d feel worse if they came out and admitted they got it wrong.
At the end of the day, reinstatement to the finals series would be the only fitting outcome and we know that ain’t going to happen.
The narrative that we were robbed will linger amongst us for a long time ( until we win our next Premiership) but the AFL admitting the ARC was wrong will cause them untold embarrassment across the entire sporting landscape and do their brand untold damage.
Calling us whiners is a brilliant strategy they’ve managed to construct through their AFL controlled media puppets to turn other supporters against us.
The point opposition will miss is that it could happen to them and they will have no recourse or even ability to question the authorities

I can't believe (well, this is the AFL, so, ok, I can) that the AFL is being allowed to sweep this under the carpet so easily.

A team has been eliminated from the finals because of a dodgy decision. You know, in any normal situation this would be an issue. But apparently not.

I reckon the very fact they are completely unwilling to look at the issue is harming their brand, but given that the AFL is reviled I suppose it won't do much harm.

As I said earlier, the behaviour you walk past is the behaviour you accept. So, everyone in the industry is fine with dodgy decisions knocking a team out of the finals? Doesn't say much for the industry does it?

Yes, all true, no point in the club pressing for an investigation. It's over, done, finished, we'll receive more respect from everyone if we just suck it up and move on. Hundreds of decisions are made throughout a game. The best teams play well enough so that one or two umpiring decisions don't determine a win or loss. On the night Brisbane were just a bit better and their win over Melbourne showed they are a worthy Prelim Finalist. I believe the AFL knows that more money needs to be spent on the ARC system. Eddie Maguire, who has a financial interest in that technology, said on Footy Class. that the technology will be a lot better next year so we can only hope it will be, otherwise let's have 2 goal ump's at each end.

So we need to publicly demand that the footage be shown, not just in house but publicly so the entire football world can see how the system works.

After all, the ARC would have to have definitive proof to overrule the goal umpires decision. So show us the proof and put to bed the stigma of cheating and incompetence for good.

Simple. You think the AFL would jump at the chance to vindicate the decision, unless of course there is no proof.

The thing is, it isn't really hi tech at all, just a fancy room with big TV screens, they still relay on channel 7 footage as far as I know.

Thats the problem BT in my view - it’s about transparency and accountability. When there is such a varied difference of view on something as important as this - the AFL, if it was a transparent and a mature organisation, it would show the evidence they have and wear the consequences and we all move on.

There is no way they can improve the system unless they are willing to own up to any mistakes that might happen.

We all know it can’t change the result now, we live with it - but I want a competition that is free from perceived and actual corruption and unless they become more open to sharing evidence and how they make decisions, I am worried the AFL is open to corruption - like what we have experienced in cricket.

Corruption cannot thrive in a transparent system.

I will therefore continue my plea to the AFL to show us the evidence.
