Umpire farce - Getting worse by the minute!

The annoying thing was, they did that at least twice, dived into our players legs. The head high contact was instigated by the Port players yet they were paid frees. Then Dusty genuinely drops the ball, reaches down to pick it up and is collected high from front on, and the maggots call play on!!
Yeh, dusty had his head down and was stationary and was ploughed into front on. As B17 points out that is a free kick every time except when it isn't.

I suppose the umpire punished him for fumbling.

Yeah I remember that one. On Friday night, the same thing happened to a Carlton player and they were offered another shot at goal or to keep the point (obviously chose the shot at goal). Consistency........................
The point should have stood, and he should have been paid a free- the bump was way after he kicked the ball.

There was a patch about a minute long in the last quarter I think , paid 2 or 3 decisions that all appeared the wrong “ interpretation “ also one that was ” play on” . I have zero against the maggots ;) but geeez Im disliking the game more and more .

what is the viewing platforms saying now? Is the game growing ?
Well the pre-match, qtr time, half-time and 3qtr time music is getting louder. It's great not being able to talk to the person next to you.

As bad as the umpiring may have been at the G yesterday, I promise you it was worse at Grafton on Saturday. One ump must have paid at least 40 holding the balls against our men's and women's' teams combined, and maybe gave us half a dozen. I was running water for the blokes when he paid holding the ball against one of our blokes who never took possession and was tackled without it. "You're joking!" I exclaimed. 50 metres, and then another one against one of our players for a point blank goal.

Still, we smashed em in both games. Their women didn't score and the men mostly only scored from frees and 50s and still lost by 10 goals.

It’s probably a bad idea and create more grey , however the best games always used to seem when less frees were played , I wouldn’t mind seeing an “ incidental “ type rule come over the umpiring , meaning if a high tackle just grazes or brushing of the arms in a marking contest it’s play on , same with tackling , it’s such a lottery , some are red hot , yet some yesterday for example were 720 spins , maybe the old incorrect disposal needs to be more applied and if the taller just has hold of the jumper with no actual control on the player it’s just play on….all I know is I just can’t stand the way it is now ……should finger nail touches count as touched when they don’t influence the fall in anyway ?

I think the most ridiculous decision occurred on Saturday night in the suns/dogs game. Can’t remember if the dogs player marked or was given a free. The suns player was on the mark. His only movement seemed to be his breathing. The whistle goes , 50 against for not “standing “. He looks around to see who gave away the 50 not realizing it was against him. The commentators were saying it might have been there. They looked at the replay and went wtf!!
Totally incompetent or blatantly cheating there?

4 umpires are worse than 3 umpires.

The Miller? tap on called as a throw and the Hugo jumper pull a couple of metres from an umpire are only two blatant examples of gross incompetence from our game. It is wrong for a professional game to be adjudicated by such inconsistency and ineptitude and for the ruling body to find it acceptable and fit for purpose. The Australian Football League have no accountability so don't give a rats. The game is a farce.

The umpires tried to hand that game to the Dogs. Very relieved for the Suns when the game finished as they deserved the win. The umpiring in that game was insanely pro Bulldogs for some reason.

What a fARCe. They replayed this 10 times showing no other angle. Modern up AFL!!!

Surprised they listened to us for once.

how many 360's can the opposition players take before its a free kick to us?
Hopefully not too many, otherwise they’d get dizzy, fall over and our blokes would be pinned for “a dangerous tackle”
Then *smile* wit Christian would put his imprimatur on it

Dissent has been forgotten about- makes the free against Carlton(?) that cost the game even more ridiculous (glorious!). the interpretation of the "stand" rule has changed hugely over the course of the season- players often put their hands up on the mark then slowly walk out backwards. and falling/lying on someones back is not longer a free (except when it is).

and the umps were terrible yesterday- how bad was the free to the AA half back who picked the ball up then dove at our defender?
No it was the giants who were robbed v blues. That umpire gifted win took the heat off Voss for a few weeks

Because results are contrived by the AFL. Have been saying it for years. Amazed that people express such confusion or wonderment. The comment before about it being closer to WWE was quite apt.

All fit to purpose for revenue generating or maintaining e.g. RFC have maintained 100k members for many consecutive years now, winning 3 flags. We can be taken for granted; only concern would be to ensure enough success so too much of a drop-off in revenue we provide, year after year.

AFL plans to ensure other clubs succeed, especially those less successful ones (Cats got their turn '22, Dees in '21 etc) but with strong or growing memberships with reliably high game attendances = $$$$$$$$$$$$ into Gil and lackeys coffers e.g. Adelaide teams long without flags now.

There was one incident that stood out for me that is convincing me that they aren’t incompetent but cheats. In the last quarter, ralphsmith was chasing the ball in front of him, his opponent behind. I’m in the top deck of the Olympic stand and I could quite clearly see him get held by the jumper with the ball metres in front of him. The umpire was literally a couple of metres away, was clearly looking at the players, then looked to the ball. It went out of bounds, he signaled a throw in. There is no way he was blindsided and had a ringside seat to that incident. I was furious considering how blatant it was
Saw that. I almost choked on my stubby. It was sooo obvious even on telly.

The one football action I want changed back is that a handball over the head/shoulder is always paid as a throw. I saw a lot of them over the weekend, almost all were throws.

Also, did anyone read about the pro-Boston NBA ref who has been using a burner account to defend himself?
