Ivan Soldo

We converted pick 50 into pick 49....sounds so much better! Here we go Hawks, a pick in the 40s for you!

Seriously, when you think Soldo was a Category B rookie, the deal we get is phenomenal. Bit like the buying your first BHP shares when they dug the first hole.

If we finish last and freo 2nd last we will have pick 1 19 & 20
And then we can ask the AFL for assistance
Pick 1, 3, 19, 20

Excellent deal, well done Blair. Obviously it exposes us a bit in the ruck if Ryan doesn't step up, but in terms of value for a guy that would at best earn us a Band 3 compo pick next year we have extracted significant value for him.

We have a whole heap of picks now for this years draft and not many list spots. Interesting to see what we do with them. I think we have 29, 41, 49, 65 and 68 that have any sort of value. Hopefully we are also looking at trading up the draft order.
Great deal.
for ruck cover we can get one from Port either lycett treakle or sam hayes as now Soldo is their number 1. they cant have 4 rucks sitting there (not sure of other 3's contract status tho). whichever we think is best we should go for prob either hayes or treakle as they are younger and COULD possibly become decent rucks??
i think Ryan can and should play alot of games next year to develop (regardless if nank inj or not). so were only looking for a 3rd backup ruck

The country’s best young player going to a big club like Richmond?

Four years after the last flag?

AFL won’t have it.

If Richmond finishes last next season, I guarantee you a draft lottery for the bottom six clubs will be introduced.

Soldo will be a good fit at Port. He is a good tap ruckman, so Wines, Roger and Butters will be looking forward to him getting there. He also drifted forward and kicked goals late in the season. All the best Ivan.

We will have at least 4 picks in the top 25 next year if we finish bottom 6. That's a good hand to go to the draft with (hopefully it's strong) or good leverage for a crack at a Ben King, Cadman etc
Yep, wouldn’t it surprise me in the least if we were going hard after Cadman in particular, who btw hasn’t even started talks about an extension with GWS yet.

Must admit I am sorry to see Soldo depart.
Understand he wants to be 1st ruck, but he was a good player for us without being a star that is.

I really wanted to keep Soldo.

But.

Soldo cost nothing and netted us a premiership, a pick in the 20's, and pick 41.

That's just good business.

At 28, his stocks shouldn't go up, and we would have got nothing for him next year anyway.

Flipside, I reckon he'll have a career best year next year. A big boy, a serious injury delay, a late starter, rapid improver and given first ruck responsibilities. Perfect formula for a breakout year.

I suspect either 41 or 49 goes to the Hawks for Kosi.

Exactly.

Whilst we're staring down the barrel of Nank getting out jumped by numerous other actual rucks and losing centre clearance after centre clearance, or better yet getting injured with an unready Samson to take his place.

This is a gamble that's manifested because he's one of the only players that is drawing any interest and that the club is happy to get rid of to get some pics.

This can easily go wrong.
