The Country Youth Championships is a very important part of the SANFL Talent Player Pathway and good performances will see Country players take the next step into SANFL U17 teams and possibly underage State Teams later in the year.

This competition attracts a lot of attention from both SANFL Clubs and AFL Clubs with Recruiting personnel keeping a very close eye on the talent on offer from Country zones across the state.

In past years, several players have come through the Country Youth Championships and their SANFL Club to be drafted into the AFL. Players such as:

2000 CYC Mark Jamar (NAFC) - Melbourne FC 2001
2000 CYC Wade Champion (WAFC) - Port Adelaide FC 2002
2000 CYC Byron Schammer (WAFC) - Fremantle FC 2002
2000/1 CYC Jarred Rivers (NAFC) - Melbourne FC 2002
2001 CYC Josh Willougby (GC) - Sydney Swans FC 2003
2001 CYC Jay Schulz (WWTFC) - Richmond FC 2002
2001/2 CYC Harry Miller (PAMFC) - Hawthorn FC 2003
2002 CYC Matthew Davis (NAFC) - Sydney Swans FC 2003

Ed: Judging by the preceding names, looks like Stephen Tiller might be a great one to keep an eye on. Sorry, noticed that he's already at the Bulldogs.
