Now, Brisbane.

Vossy began his coaching tenure at Brissie with a bang by having them into the finals in his first year. As I recall, the first time since the losing GF of 2004. This is a credit to the Brisbane staff who seemingly have transformed a squad that has gone from a golden premiership era, 2001-2003, gone through a rebuilding phase, then just re-entered the finals again. Well done!

What does the future hold?

I'm stunned when I look at the Brisbane list. Why so many smaller-mediums - 19? Why do they need 12 junior smaller-mediums?
Maybe they need that many runners taking Qld's heat into consideration.
Maybe they reckon, if they can get 8 star inside midfielders out of this group, that they can build a future on it.
Maybe they're trying to corner the market for this type. Stuns me!

They do have 26 players split along the developmental, mature & twilighter areas. Especially KPPs in the mature zone.
This would indicate that they probably will play finals again in 2010 but this also indicates that they will probably be fringe finalists again.

For me, it will be interesting to see where they are in 3 or 4 years time with their KPPs moving from the mature phase into the twilighter phase, with only a handful of junior/developing KPPs to come up in the future.

Phantom,

Love your work but you might want to review the 175-179 column as I think most of those blokes are still in Adelaide.

Well done Phantom. Agree with your assessment of Brisbane's list.

It staggers me the hype Brisbane have been getting based on the aquisition of Fevola. Their backline is average and they rely on two 30yo to get the job done in the middle. I will even go as far to say that Felova and Brown's best football is behind them.

They may play finals this year but no way will they get close to the likes of St Kilda, Geelong, Bulldogs or even Collingwood and their recent recruiting will hurt really them in years to come.

Watching pretty much every Lions game (being based in Brisbane) it is perfectly clear that Brisbane's strength lies in their defence. I'd suggest you don't watch enough of them play. Brisbane's best 4 players are Brown, Black, Fev, and Power - yet none of them play in defence. I think people just read names on paper.

I rank Brisbane's defense in the top 3 or 4 in the league. Merrett and Patfull are very accountable talls, Drummond is one of the best kicks in the comp, and blokes like McGrath and Adcock set up plenty in the backline. Maguire could be a steal. Their real weaknesses are a lack of small forward and inside mids.

I don't think Brisbane are in much trouble as everyone would have you believe. They recruited some pretty ordinary players over the summer, but didn't give up a lot to get them. They also have a very young list. I have a lot of time for their youngsters - Clark, Rich, Redden, Leuenberger, Polkinghorne, Sherman, Rockliffe for starters. I would take each and every one of them at the Tiges. And that maligned back line is very young. I don't think the players they recruited this year are going to improve them a great deal, but it's silly to think they will be in massive trouble in the future because of them.

4-6 this year IMO.
