Very Chimpy!

MATCH REPORT
by Panthera tigris FC

Richmond's form against Adelaide in Adelaide in recent years hasn't been great. With our last away victory against the Crows over a decade ago, it wasn't a surprise to see the Tigers go in as underdogs when the two teams faced off on Sunday. Although the Tigers had shown some good late season form to record victories in the two games prior to this, the Crows were also in a good patch of form and had been playing some exciting footy under their caretaker coach in Mark Bickley.

The game started as a goal-fest with Adelaide quickly putting the first major on the board, however the Tigers responded, with Tyrone Vickery's leads being honoured and he duly converting the opportunities. A questionable decision by the umpire to penalise Alex Rance for a rushed behind saw the momentum swing again and although the Tiger's held the lead in dying moments of the quarter, the Crows banged on two quick ones to go in at quarter time in front. Although 12 goals were scored in the quarter Dimma was clearly not pleased with the Tigers' conceding 7 goals and he let the players know during the quarter time huddle.

The second quarter saw the Tigers miss opportunities that they should have capitalised on as they dominated periods, but were unable to make much headway into the Crows lead. Jack Gunston was proving dangerous for Adelaide, while Jake King, Shane Edwards and Gus Graham all missed gettable goals. 1.6 for the term tells the tale and at the time it felt like Adelaide were likely to walk away with the match. This view was reinforced as the Crows scored the first goal of the third, however some the Richmond's big guns started to stamp their authority and brought the Tigers back into the match. Jack Riewoldt started presenting up the ground, Dusty continued to show class, skill and a natural flair for goal and the acting skipper, Cotch, was under every pack, winning the hard ball and setting up forward 50 entries at will. The soccer-pass from Dusty to set up Vickery for goal was sublimely skilled and as the cliche goes, "you just can't coach that". After looking almost dead and buried earlier in the quarter the Tigers were remarkably in the lead at the end of the 3rd.

The final quarter was pretty much all Tigers as Cotchin, Martin and Vickery continued to dominate. Tyrone managed to snare his 4th goal of the match and the Tigers recorded an impressive 22 point victory over the Crows, their 3rd win on the trot.

In the voting this week Trent Cotchin was adjudged best Tiger on the ground for the 6th time this season and has capped off an excellent season, playing every match and will be the clear runaway victor in this years PREmier Fighting Tiger Award. Vickery continues his good form and has established himself as a dangerous forward and a solid foil to Riewoldt in the forward line. His four goals this week ensured a good showing on the ballots this week. Martin also featured prominently and has revived himself from his mid-season slump to reclaim the second position overall. His strength and goal sense are amazing to watch, especially considering that he is only in his second year.

Although the victor is clear, there is still plenty at stake for the players in this week's final game of the season against the Kangaroos. Can Tuck finish in the top 10 after not even playing half the games this season? Can Vickery end up higher on the leaderboard than Riewoldt? Will Houli or Rance finish as the Tiger's best defender? How will Dusty, Lids and Nahas finish up, with only 39 votes separating the three of them?

Stay tuned over the coming weeks for the 2011 PREmier Fighting Tiger Awards Thread.
