2021 Draft Thread

Apart from Andrews, who is the top rated kp from Victoria and is there a chance that he's gone under the radar with minimal games played.

I like the potential of what Erasmus could become and being 1 of the youngest players in this draft and a 'late comer' of sorts he appears to e a prodigious talent thats just scratching the surface and his size is perfect for the big mid/fwd. I think he is certainly going top 10 and wont get past eagles. If available at pick #9 i would be calling out his name. Only question i have is will his game translate to a midfielder at AFL level

But i have confidence in our WA recruiter (sam cousens) to make that call and could be a choice between Erasmus / Johnson at our 1st selection

But just as a side thought i have this picture in my head of Dimma and his assistants putting together a new game plan that involves 5-6 big mids
Erasmus / Goater / Long / RCD / Dusty all rotating through the midfild and foward line where we dont have a reliance on KPF but a swarm of big mids

What is it that makes grown men drool about big mids
I can see Freo and WC (6,8,10) to raffle Johnson Erasmus and Amiss.
It will be cat and mouse to see which one they select first

Pick 4 - Callaghan (GWS)
Pick 5 - Gibcus (GC)
Pick 6 - Hobbs (Ade)

Pick 10 - Andrews (Freo)

I'm ok with Rachele, I'm a firm believer he can make it as a midfielder, kicking A1 also.

I would doubt Freo take 3 talls that high in the draft

Let someone else take Andrews. Project types like Andrews shouldn’t be taken in the top 10. Very boom or bust.
Given he's a project player i am surprised he's even mentioned as a 1st round pick. I see him as a slider at his current size TBH

Clarke has never got close a few days before the draft let alone 6 weeks away.

Twomey now and Emma Quayle in her time got the inside word and usually nail it

So with all the big mids everyone here's been talking about for weeks, it now appears we're locked n loaded to refill the pinata with another midget forward who might play some mid. Damn. We've become predictable.

Not because of anything that dunce Clark has written, but of the 3 or 4 potential kids being thrown around that are in scope to land at pick 7 (9) for us, Rachele would appear to have the highest chance it seems. Not to say Richmond would have him as best available, they might consider someone else who knows, but of the 3 or 4 being discussed, I think Rachele has the highest chance. Freo maybe the only disruptor to that, but I doubt it. Think they’ll try and corner 2 WA players from Johnson/Erasmus/Amiss. Their list manager was on radio last week saying they definitely put a weighting towards local players.

I think there is a possibility that Adelaide go for Rachelle. Which will effectively works out Hobbs slipping to our pick if that happened.

Haven’t heard it for a while, but there was a rumour doing the rounds in WA that the Eagles were exploring the possibility of a draft day trade for the Tigers pick 7 (9).

Maybe. I just have Rachele as the highest % chance. Could change between now and Draft night but right now, just seems he’s the higher % of the 3 or 4.

My Freo mate reckons they will take Erasmus first and then Johnson if given the opportunity.
I hope we get one.

Need the draft experts to clarify something for me - in relation to points for Darcy and Daicos they often mention (like the article above) that clubs need to use all the picks taken to the draft even if bundled for picks. However, draft picks are essentially infinite (at least to the number of available spots and in theextreme, to a maximum list size) so how is it possible to police. As noted repeatedly, Richmond may not be using all their picks and clubs often pass with the later picks.

i hope we are doing massive amounts of homework into Amiss. And Andrew. Full scale due diligence and background checks.
Getting to know their coaches and
Give every indication we might pick them.

Well, I did have him higher on the board than the others, it's just the fact he's not what we are screaming out for, that's ok I suppose. At the moment you could expect 70/30 forward/midfield split but after the third year that would probably tip over to more midfield time. It will be gradual, so I guess patience is required. He's got leadership credentials so that may be the factor that attracts us, Shifter reckons he's our man, reckons he's a vintage Richmond pick so maybe we are a tad bit predictable. If this does occur then I hope West Coast take Erasmus, that might see Johnson slide, having Johnson slide to our second would be a great result. Fingers crossed for this -

11. Sonsie
12. Erasmus
13. Goater
14. Draper
15. Wanganeen-Milera
16. Sinn
17. Johnson

For example, if you have 4 spots open on your list you can only use points available from your first four picks then it starts eating into your pick next year if you have a deficit is the way I believe it works.
