2021 Draft Thread

With now having that block of 3 picks in the 20's. Does anyone think there is merit in doing this.

Picks 7 and 15 for 5 and 21 with the Hawks?

Whilst we obviously need a focus on the future, it would be of great benefit to us, to have a top pick that is basically ready to go, which it sounds like both Hobbs and Ward are. Pick 5 from the Hawks would guarantee us one of those.

We know there will be some significant quality in the 20's so we will still get a good player with that pick.
If I'm the Hawks with Sammy the new coach, he wants the best midfielder he can get. So he wants a chance at Hobbs or Ward.
Why would they trade?

I dont really buy into all the other clubs hate us mantra (not that you are saying this AT) but it is a good outcome from where we sat this morning

I was wondering why all other clubs were getting swap deals done except us, got me thinking either we can't negotiate or teams are reluctant to do deals with us, so maybe Richmond thought to give this 3rd rounder and close the deal now. I would've preferred we didn't but not fussed, not the end of the world.
At least we already have our first plus two 2nd rounders next year.

If we have 5 picks, plus a second second-rounder next year, maybe our forecast is that we won't be using our fourth or even third rounder next year due to a list spot squeeze.

Well, we got caught a bit short is the reason. And Cwood took advantage. A few people were calling this out and then had a few cheer squadders labelling it as “panicking” when really, it was just logical reasoning that we were going to have to pursue a sub optimal outcome to avoid a really unpalatable outcome ie excess de listings or unused Draft picks.

Anyway, moving on. Lot of decent picks to still be able to use in an exciting Draft.
Are you still carrying on about this. You definitely were panicking ha ha. What would we of given up for pick 17 then to of beaten what the Dogs got ? i am glad you are moving on at last as it has obviously been bothering you.:ROFLMAO:

The only thing I can think of (and they may make the trade purely for this reason) is Sonsie. They have clearly had him play for Box Hill (and he did well), so they may be looking at options to trade up to be in a position to take him. The Hawks are in a position where they could take Andrew even with their 1st pick or Rachele and still be really happy. They will have plenty of time to take a lot of high end midfielders over the next 3-4 years. They are living in fantasyland with the commentary coming out of the Hawks that they will play finals within 3 years.

If by some miracle it works out like this -

9. Rachele
17. Johnson
26. Taylor
27. McDonald
28. Alleer

Well balanced, addresses all needs, positional flexibility & excellent kicking skills. Not a bad haul.

i'd take Sonsie with our first pick so I understand their reasoning!

maybe covered elsewhere but with garth delisted and biggie and cumberland dropped to rookie list doesn't this open up 7 spots on the main list?

Hawks were super keen to get their mitts on pick 13, Sonsie their target I believe. Essendon reluctant to deal, Goater seemingly their target. This could be seen as a good development in so much as both players have impressed during their stints at the clubs. This probably more so relevant for Sonsie who has some knocks on his application.

Nobody was panicking and still nobody is panicking. Just pointing out the inevitable problems we would run into, and have.

Picks 38, 40 and a future 3rd rounder equate to 1181 points if we were to finish say 6th next year. Pick 27 is worth 703.

Now if you think that’s a deal in our favour or that it’s not worth discussing, I’d politely suggest to you that it is and that otherwise you are one of the said cheer squadder’s that I was referring to who thinks everything and anything we do is always peachy.

5 picks inside 30

and the 5th,6th,7th picks of Day 2, after an overnight workshop, titled

who we've got, who we want, and who's still there; The night that applied the passionfruit icing to a dynastically super draft.

also gives us leverage and time if someone we really rate is overlooked in the first round, to trade for pick 1 day 2 (27 and 28 for 20)

You still haven't told me what you would of given for pick 17 to beat what the Dogs eventually got. It is easy to be critical but you need to explain how you would of done better. I certainly don't agree with everything the club does and I think we have paid slightly overs on this deal but sometimes you have to pay a bit overs, you win some you lose some. I just didn't like you smart arse tone about the cheer squadders and giving you the chance to show what the club should of done. In other words put up or shut up.

I have a feeling that with the likelihood of Cotchin and Riewoldt leaving at year end there is a free agent we are targetting. Don't need a draft pick for that

I wouldnt be surprised if we did a further trade for picks 26,27 & 28 for another earlier pick.
For that trade to be worthwhile you would want a pick in the first dozen, but even then I reckon you might have more success with three more speculative types, all depends on the player you are targeting. Now if that player was Wanganeen-Milera and he was a bust then it might wind up being a disaster. Two picks for a potential A grade outside player better in my opinion.

points smoints.
Pies gain 200 points this year, which they could have used from their next pick 46 anyway.
To do the trade they obviously wanted to get a 2022 draft pick.
its done now.

So for the record was it 23, 44 and 45 that the Doggies got?
