The title is quite wrong (given the story of the
prodigal son) but anyway.. here's this from
the "Moreland Leader" - a local Coburg paper.

A return for prodigal son?
By Bradley Bishop.

COBURG Football Club's biggest name is poised to
make an official return to the club in it's hour
of need.

Phil Cleary appears set to fill the void made by
Peter Bacash's resignation two months ago.

Tiger's football administation manager Michael
Roberts said the two-time premiership coach is
likely to be sworn in as chairman by the end of
next week.

Under a Coburg proposal, Cleary will act as the
head of a four person executive that will also
include highly respected Richmond administrator
Greg Miller.

"We're in the final stages of Phil Cleary taking
up the chairman's role," Roberts said late last
week.
"We'll be calling an extraordinary general meeting
in the next two weeks and we're going to propose
a four-person board, two people from Coburg, one
of those being Phil Cleary, and two from Richmond,
one of those being Greg Miller.

"Greg Miller's one of the most experienced
adminisrators in football and Phil Cleary is, well
Phil Cleary."

Cleary's decision to stand for the chairman's role
is in contrast to statements he made at the Tigers'
information night earlier this month where he said
wouldn't be in the running for the Tigers' top job.

"Initially, when he turned up that night (of the
meeting) he said he couldn't do it and that he
probably wasn't the man for the job but I think,
as time's gone on, more and more people have
spoken to him and he's got a greater insight and
realised that he can help," Roberts said.

Coburg couldn't ask for a better person to take
over as chairman according to Roberts.

"You know that when you're dealing with Phil Cleary
you're dealing with someone that's got Coburg 100 per
cent at heart," he said.

"The big deficiency is getting people back around the
club and one of Phil's strengths is the contacts that
he has and the relationships that he has with
prominent people.

"That is one thing that he can offer the club will
benefit from."
