COBURG Tigers produced the upset of the Victorian
Football League season by finishing ahead of the
top-placed Box Hill Hawks after a dour 120 minutes
at Coburg City Oval last Saturday.

Before the weekend, the Hawks had only been beaten
once and are hot favourites for the premiership.

But the Tigers stuck to their guns to hold a slender
margin at every break and run out winners by five
points.

Goalsneak Djaren Whyman - a possible draftee for the
AFL next season - split the big sticks on four
occasions, Richmond-listed Royce Vardy booted three
and Adam Houlihan may have earned an AFL recall with
his match-wining performance.

The Tigers host Springvale at City Oval at 2pm on
Sunday.

Score: Coburg Tigers 12.8.80 BoxHill Hawks 11.9.75
Coburg Tigers Gaols: Whyman 4, Vardy 3, Houlihan 2
Biddiscombe, Pettifer, Thremellen.
Best: Houlihan, Carlyle, Carlson, Hyde, Whyman, Vardy.
