That's funny - whilst I certainly hope it's not true, I
heard the same thing last year! I suppose they
budget for it each year now ;)

Hey j2r....

Buy your mate a shandy. He's at least half right at this
stage. The pres and vice-pres have walked. No mention
of the $180K yet.

I gather from some hard core Coburg people that
the pres wasn't exactly well liked - and made dictatorial
decisions. Things like the crap web site this year and
some "jumper" issues.

I know that there are people that are "willing to work"
if they are given a proper chance, but this episode
may well have left a bad taste in their mouths.

Here's an article on the pres.... sounds a lot like sour
grapes to me (No one would do it the way I wanted to
so I'm walking...)

Coburg President walks.

By Brad Bishop.

While trying to assemble a new board is it's
main aim, bigger problems lie ahead for the
Coburg Tigers Football Club according to
out-going president Peter Bacash.

"I think the club's in grave danger of going
bad," Mr Bacash said. "if Richmond pull the
alignment at the end of the year I think Coburg's
finished.
"(And) I think there's every chance that it will
happen. It's just my reading of what's happening."

Mr Bacash was speaking regarding the decision of
himself and vice president, Tony Singarella, to
resign earlier this month, plunging Coburg into
turmoil in the week leading up to its opening
game of the season.

While Singarella resigned for different reasons,
Mr Bacash resigned just four months after being
appointed president, due to lack of co-operation
from his fellow board members.

"I took the step to get in because I wanted to
help the club and I very quickly found out that
there were only two people prepared to work,"
Mr Bacash said, referring to Singarella and
himself.

"Most of the other committee members that were
around just wanted to look nice, show up on
match day with their badge and say they were
part of the committee.

"There's too many people there with their own
ideals about what they should do and I just
didn't want to waste my time, to be quite frank.

"Very, very quickly I learnt that I couldn't
achieve what I wanted to so I got out."

Mr Bacash said he tried to work through his
differences with other committee members,
but he could see the situation becoming
unbearable.

"I tried to convince myself to stay, being a
small business operator and being someone
that does things and gets things going,"
he said.

"But being a football club you only get a
very, very little window of grace when you
win one game and the rest of the time you're
consistently putting out fires. It wasn't
something I wanted to be involved with long
term if other people weren't going to share
the responsibilities."

Mr Bacash also had a parting shot at AFL clubs,
which he believes are not supporting their
aligned VFL clubs as well as they could.

"Basically VFL clubs need more assistance from
AFL clubs and I thought that that was sort of
there but wasn't really there," he said.

"I just thought AFL clubs were probably using
the VFL clubs as a cheap way out of putting
a side on the field.

"I didn't think it was equal."

Coburg Tigers football administration
manager Michael Roberts said the club was
supprised at Bacash's and Singarealla's
decision to resign.

"We were (supprised)," Mr Roberts said last
week. "The president and vice-president had
only been in since December and everything
was going quite smoothly.

"They were setting the club up how they
wanted and were in the process of doing that."

The Tigers are hopeful a new board will be in
place by the end of this week.

"There's a group of supporters who have been
around the club for a while that are trying
to see what they can do so we're having
meetings with them and the Richmond end,"
Mr Roberts said.

"We were hoping that it would be sorted out
by the end of this week but because of the
short week it will probably go into next week.
