Coburg, Melbourne
Coburg: 4-2, 4-7, 4-8, 5-11-41
Werribee: 3-1, 6-3, 11-7, 15-12-102

(The scoreboard said 15-11-101 - but I just added
it up from the record that spotter keeps and it was
15-12-102)

Goals: Kuret 3, Flaherty, Mills.

Insipid performance overall. Encouraging start - then
3 quarters of players just filling in the time.

Apart from the first quarter, most were utter crap.
Only Coburg players stood out... Kuret, Talbot, Carlson
and Depa. Wazza tried at times. Hyde, Rogers, Dragga
etc looked like they'd be usefull in the first quarter,
but after that - basically stuff all. Shir got a massive hit
in the guts - and after he was taped up, wasn't as good.

Mills is the Bowden of the Coburg side- minus the skill.
Those pissweak efforts really do stand out.

If it wasn't the fact that we need a replacement for
King, none of them should get a run next week.

I think one of the basic problems was that with Schulz
and McGrath out, there wasn't any forward targets.
They'd get the ball to around half forward - but then
just didn't know what to do with it. They could have
kicked four goals in the second quarter - but alas -
they botched it. From there, the downhill slide
became much steeper. I reckon they have races at
half time in the rooms to see how many cans of
VB they can drink before the second half begins.
There can't be a much better explaination....

Oh, and I'll bet they list Rogers in the "best". It's not
correct. Don't believe it. No Richmond player was in
the "best" for Coburg today - I don't care how many
possesions they had - it's just not correct.

Worst I've seen Coburg play in quite a while. I missed the first quarter, when I arrived, Coburg were leading 4 goals to 3, and then didnt score a goal until midway through the last quarter.

Of the Richmond players:

Rogers - did nothing all day
Dragicevic - didnt do much either
Biddiscombe - again did nothing
Sipthorp - limited game time, didnt do much, will need to improve his build before next year
Hyde - poor today, gave away some silly free kicks
Mills - shocking
Shir - was ok, disposal sloppy at times, but probably caused by having no targets to kick to
Pickering - did nothing
Vardy - did nothing

Kuret looks a good player, no sure how old he is, but wouldnt be surprised if he popped up on a rookie list next year.

I think number 5 is Rayson, not totally sure, always comes on, looks good, does some nice things and is taken off again. Can anyone fill me in?

Very ordinary game, and not real sure about Spargo, his quarter and three quarter time speeches seem to lack direction, just full of, stand up and be counted, show some spine, bla bla, which works sometimes, but given some direction to the team seems to be an afterthought as the huddle breaks.

Would be interested to hear Baktiger and Brownlows thoughts on this

Yes, 5 is Brad Rayson. Good prospect.
I've noticed this as well. Probably because he's
judged as "young" and "inexperienced", so they plan
to give him dribs and drabs of game time? Not sure.
At least he has a go.

I missed the 1st quarter spiel - young bloke wants
me to kick the ball back to him for some reason...

Just before 3 quarter time, a few of us were predicting
what the 3 quarter time "spray" was going to be like.
I got it right - along with another bloke...

At this stage, the game was over. Any changes
would have been shuffling chairs on the titanic so to
speak .... so individual direction would probably have
been superfluous.

All the tired old cliches ... "ticker" .. play for pride in yourself... bla bla.. I know what the message was (That
when a little pressure is applied that too many of them go missing (Particualrly the RFC blokes!) ).. and he stated that - But to tell you the truth - I felt that the
these players would have all heard that crap before
in the previous games and that the way it was
expessed wouldn't have exactly inspired me to do a lot
more. It was too late at that stage anyway.
Left me wondering if I should get a can of VB - and
I don't drink at the footy ;)

Not withstanding that this particular game was over,
there doesn't seem to be a lot of individual
and team directions given. A few players seem to
get a mention as to what they have done, but there's
no hard directions given to anyone. It's more along
the lines of "you Richmond blokes" or "you blokes
representing Coburg". To be fair tho' he did instruct
the forward line to "move around" - and if you're
tired to stick your arm up (yes I'm serious) ... but by
that stage - geeze who really cared anymore. In other
games, you see the coach specifically point out players
and tell them what job to do and give a few contingency
plans as well - doesn't appear to happen (at least to us
mortals!) at Coburg games anymore ???

It was the first Coburg game I had been to - close to home so off I trudged.

I noticed Matt Shir getting taped at quarter time. from a totally unbiased prespective he should be on our senior list. At least he runs the lines.

I was there with a couple of people who watch Coburg every week and they said Coburg were definitely missing Marty and Jay.

I agree Matty Rogers was ordinary, so too Mills. Poor Royce looked like he wanted to be anywhere but Werribee.

Thought Dragga was Ok - good for him to get through a game on a heavy ground (the centre was a bog). Will help him overcome a couple more of those dreaded knee demons.
