Just letting everyone know there is a praccy match on Sat morning in case anyone is interested in going for a look.

A bit of a report would be greatly appreciated if anyone goes. :)

VFL Practice Match:

Coburg v Port Melbourne
Time: 10.30am
Date: Saturday 6 March
Venue: Latrobe (Main Oval)

Should be an interesting game

I'll be going to the match (I barrack for Port) on Saturday at LaTrobe, should be an interesting line-up for the Borough as Port have another two games on Sunday.

cheers,

The scores were (according to spotter)

Port: 2-2, 6-8, 7-13, 8-15-63
Coburg: 2-2, 3-2, 8-3, 14-6-90

Hyde and Dragga did well, Houlihan was Mr turnover
(he wasn't alone!) for the first half but got better
(not great, but better). I don't recognise most of the
new blokes yet - but notice that Coburg had the
traditional Coburg/Richmond fade out quarter (Q2)
but the wind was fairly strong in that quarter
favouring Port. They obviously got better in the
second half.

They had a 'huge' interchange bench (a dozen blokes
I reckon) so there was a fair bit of experimenting
going on.

Species to: Carl Steinfort.

Sorry for the brief nature of this report - like I said, I
didn't know who the hell half the blokes were!

PS. About a third of the Coburg grand stand got burnt
down overnight!. I heard it on the radio news as
a 'Soccer stadium' in Bridges reserve. There isn't
any Soccer stadium in Bridges reserve in Coburg.
Rocked over to have a look... yep it was Coburg
Football ground.

Grandstand looked pretty bad from what they showed on the news tonight

Apparently firefighters managed to save almost all memorabilia stored in the grandstand and clubrooms

Maybe they might have to transfer the games. :)

It looked like it was confined to just one end
of the stand or maybe up to half - all the old
pidgeon pooed on seats at that end gone, as
well as the roof.
I dunno if the underneath structure was damaged
at all (ie where the 'rooms' are etc). If it's just the
wooden seats and the roof - then if the rest
is structually sound it can probably be repaired.
But I couldn't say as I was just walking past
in the car park ... didn't go in to have a real
close look. It was roped off anyway.

I'd hope that it was insured and that would pay for
any repairs.

Look impressive on the TV news. Good on those
firemen.

Phil Cleary was on the news thanking firemen for managing to save some Coburg memorabilia. So it sounded as though some part of the social club may have effected. But I am not sure to what extent.

I live not far from coburg oval, its in a bad way im affraid 2 say. I dunno it might have 2 come down. Calder cannons lost most of their memorbilia and coburg saved most but it leaves them with no dressing rooms as no ones allowed in the structure isnt safe. We've had some gang stuff happening in Coburg lately i just hope they catch this lot, the primary school is just across the park, would not b good if that went up. Still this will b ahrd Coburg already struggle money wise i doubt they can afford 2 rebuild the whole stand

Terrible news about the Grandstand, some of the stuff in the rooms would have been irreplaceable. So hopefully not much of it was lost.

Maybe, the club and council could try and use it as a positive, and spend some money upgrading facilities at the ground?
