Im intersted in a compete lists of Richmond flags and honours.

From what I know we are the;

Richmond.

VFA Premiers - 1902, 1905
VFL Premiers - 1920, 1921, 1932, 1934, 1943, 1967, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1980.

I heard we also beat South Australia in a early club, state vs state game?

Is there anything else of note as Richmond supporters are porud of?

cheers 8)

There is an honour board on the "History" page of PRE. It needs updating though and will be done early in the new year. I've got a bit much happening to do it just at the moment.

Speaking of the Honour Board, can Richmond not posthumous award someone the Best and Fairest awards for 1908-10, 1912, 1915 and 1920-21 if we have the records, consensus etc. The AFL back-date things all the time. I dont think its sacrilege to say Jack Titus was also B&F in 1920.

It would be hard for Titus to win, he hadn't even started in 1920.

But your comments about Best and Fairest retrospective is a good one.
It would require taking the opinion of the newspapers of the day, and maybe any comments in the Minute Book to ascertain who played well for each game.
It's something I believe has already been undertaken, or is currently being undertaken.

As for Richmond honors:

Premierships: 1902 (VFA), 1905 (VFA), 1920, 1921, 1932, 1934, 1943, 1967, 1969, 1973, 1974, 1980 ...

Runners Up:    1901 (VFA),  1903 (VFA) , 1904 (VFA), 1919 , 1927 , 1928 , 1929 , 1931 , 1933 , 1940  1942 , 1944 , 1972 1982...

I know second prize is a bag of proverbial, but I had no idea we snared 2nd on so many occassions. Geez, change even just a couple of those to flags and I wouldn't have had to put up with the constant flag count from my bomber so called mates.

You missed one.

Runners Up in 1972 as well

And guess which side usually beat us in those early GFs?
Yes, that's why many Tiger supporters hate the maggots so much.

I don't know too much about 72, but according to my father, everything that could go right DID go right for Carlton... 28.9...sheesh, how do you beat that?

82 was more a case of everything that could go wrong for Richmond did go wrong...

Far out, runners up 1927,28,29,31,33 and premiers 1932,34.

We must have had one hell of a team from 1927 to 1934!
And again 1940 to 1944!

Yes there were some other problems too.
McKellar was made to play in the 1st ruck even though he'd complained all week of a bad back. Why Hunt was put on Walls I'll never know, too f---ing slow. Why Boyanich was on Nicholls, too f---ing skinny. Hafey put the Whale into the ruck in the 2nd half. Put Richardson onto Walls, and Hunt back down onto Nicholls, and Sheedy onto the ball, but it was far too late by then.
Sat in the Southern stand and didn't crack a smile all game. Even had a fight with my school friend who was sitting next to me. And he was a Tiger supporter as well!

Im too bone lazy to find out for myself, but I recall after we won the reserves flag in 1997,I was told we had won more flags combined than any other club (1sts,2nds and U19s)

Not sure if its still true,or in fact ever was true.

Rhett we also were placed 2nd in 24 even though no G Final - still Bummers claim 1st.
Also Phantom, check out how few times Pies have beaten us since '37 (in finals), not many. Have figures somewhere, but cant put a hand on them at this minute.

The Maggots haven't been the same side since the 30s. My recollection is that they've won 14 premierships of which 2 have been won since the 1930s, being 1958 & 1990. But in the early 30s and prior I believe the Maggots were the bane of Tiger's existence.

Good pick up there young Bartlett. Perhaps you may want to add why the B&F award wasnt given over those years. I myself think it was a purely financial reason. We were probably broke (like now) and couldnt afford to give an extra 10 bob to a worthy Tiger player. What a pity that mighty shrine, our Honour Board, has glaring omissions due to monetary reasons. Perhaps our great leader, Kim Il Casey, can take a leaf out of the book from some of his predecessors and shave some red ink off of this years upcoming financial disaster and not award a Jack Dyer Medal.
...or perhaps he has already thought about it???

A true Best and Fairest award did not really come in til around 1940.
Anything before that varied from year to year 'Best All round player' 'Best Player ' 'Most Consistent' and as such there was no definitive award.

I don't think it a money thing at all, as most trophies were donated by Donors in those days - it was just that the idea of best and fairest award had not fully been furnished.

I read in a trivia quiz that before it was named the Brownlow, the best player of the year award was called "Champion of the Season" and before that "Champion of the Colony"
