Rory has an airy - we’re all human

Great to see his finish and a good round tomorrow and who knows …. .?

The greens on the Old have been copping a bit of stick. They closed the course for maint last week for a few days. Interested to get your opinion on how they are now, been a month since I played it. .
Greens and course in general were ok , every year on the old they do a full renovation in November, they’ve also hit the greens with a dose of poacure just before which always has them looking a bit sparse . Bit of rain and heat and the course will be good in a week or so , peaking in the new year .

Crowds are off the charts. Looks great on tv.
Attended with a good mate yesterday. Just about a perfect day: conditiuons ideal, warm but not too hot, mild southerly wind, the course is always magnificent although they're spoilt for choice with holes to choose. Excellent to see Cam Smith looking good, back in form at last and other big Aussie names, Scottie and MWL who is looking ominous, in strong contention. MWL got in very good position on several early holes but just missed birdies. We missed his eagle ... but heard it!

Today, great to see Cam continuing to make birdies but MWL off the boil, not cooking - has lost his swing.

A cool $2 million for 2025 and 2026 helps to get him here
Commentator on Kayo claimed he's coming back next two, so three in total for that $$. I think he's probably worth it. Felt like the grand old AO days at RM yesterday.

I like the cut of his jib. Very even keeled. Aus PGA Championship win last year suggested he might be a bit tougher than many other Australian golfers on the world stage at the moment.
I really like him too. Early days but might have the potential to become our best player over the next few years, level-headed, can move the ball both ways and quite long, very solid putter. When he gets a bit more muscle on that tall frame, watch out.

Nice golf Abyss breaker this weekend. Aus Open, Nedbank Challenge, Tiger Woods’ event in the Bahamas. Lot of viewing.

How the f** is the DP Tour running 2 events this week ? The Australian Open is missing out on a bunch of players eg Penge (who played in Queensland last week), Reitan, Couvra, Detry, McKibbin, Ayora etc. We’re missing a heap of top 20 DP players.

WTF ?
Missing players including R. Johnston who is also playing Nedlands. The previous AO winner choosing not to defend.
What a classless Yank, probably a flog!
I'd never invite him back here.

Best Australian Open in many years Leon Panetta.

Certainly is. It's been outstanding to watch. Now up for a great finish with so many in contention of numerous nationalities including several of the very best Aussie players. It's anybodies.

Well, one of the Wooters looks like he’s almost out of it. And unfortunately it’s the Australian one.

The Korean one is still right in it though.

MWL just cannot help finding trouble in places with his long game. Mercurial does not equal reliable. And approach shots improving but still similar.

Him and Smith are ragged off the tee. At least Smith has an elite short game though to rely upon.

Smith: two days in a row he’s carved it right off the 6th into the trees with a 3 wood. Long clubs, he goes across the line at the top.

Yes, I'm just amazed how he keeps doing it; hasn't corrected it - with all the resources at his disposal. Not sure if his coaching team are doing enough for him. Like, if you can't hit a 3-wood reliably at his level ... !

The Dane is plateauing for quite some time now. I'd say it's gonna be a Kim or Smiffy win today.

It's down to Cam Smith of the Australian chances. MWL is completely gone and Scott just not deadly enough. Unfortunately it will probably fall into the lap of someone who is just playing steadily but gets a lucky eagle or couple of birdies late, like Kim or the Dane.

Cam has just jumped into the lead with a birdie on 10. Can he maintain it? Go Cam!!

(Won't be surprised if one of Hillier or Ortiz make a charge).

Saffer Hollick has gone nuts, just birdied the 15th to go -5 for the round and -11 in total. He might just post a top score.

Cam's pitch approach just not quite good enough cf. to Neergard's who has fired up, resulting in a narrowly missed putt.
Is that the championship?
